Mr. Charles Edward Phillips age 68, 2531 Shorter Avenue, Lot # 35. Rome, passed away Wednesday afternoon at his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Phillips was born in Chattooga County on September 19, 1929. Son of the late Melvin Eugene Phillips and Maude Mildred (Dodson) Phillips Prior to his becoming disabled he was employed for over 14 years at Pharr Yarns of Georgia, Inc. here in Rome. He was a member of the Huffacre Road Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was preceded in death by his parents, by a son John Daniel Phillips, and by a brother Donald Garnett Phillips. Survivors include his wife, the former (Private), to whom he was married on September 8, 1951 - 2 daughters (Private), Rome and 2 Sons, a sister, (Private); two brothers, Alvin Eugene Phillips, Rome and (Private), 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Glass officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Oakland Cemetery with the American Legion Post # 5 Honor Guard extending military honors The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home this evening from 7-9 P.M. and at other hours they will be at the residence Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home Friday at 1:45 P.M. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the Funeral arrangements.
