Mr. Rupert W. Herndon, age 86, of Silver Creek Ga., passed away on Monday, December 14, 1998 at his residence. Mr. Herndon was born on
January 28, 1912 in Polk county and was a retired farmer an Army veteran, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Audrey Dooley Herndon; parents, Joel Chesley Herndon and Matilda Gartrell West Herndon; a daughter, Eileene Herndon; two sisters, Ona
Pope and Sara Davis; and a brother Preston Herndon. Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral
services for Mr. Herndon were conducted on Thursday, December 17, 1998 from the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Chapman and Rev.
Robert Chapman and Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Brewster
Cleveland Post #86. Pallbearers included Leo Couzzort, James F. Davis, Johnny Dollar, Pat Cain, Larry Dooley, Irvin Pope, John Pope, Paul Pope.
Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
