Joseph Preston Herndon

Joseph Preston Herndon, age 85, 807 Avenue B, Rome, died Saturday, Dec. 28.
Mr. Herndon was born Nov. 19, 1906, in Polk County. He was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a retired Berry College carpenter.
Surviving are two sons, John L. Willingham, Orlando; Billy Willingham, Savannah; son-in-law, Bobby Hatch, Rome; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Davis, Silver Creek; one brother, Rupert Herndon, Silver Creek. Nine nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Monroe Willingham officiating. Interment followed in Sanders Cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
The Gammage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
