Jerry Herndon, 38, Old Dalton Road, Rome Rte. 7, died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday in a Rome hospital.
Mr. Herndon was born in Heard County Aug 19, 1939, son of Mrs. Mary Hawk Herndon and the late Preston A. Herndon Sr. He had spent most of his life in Floyd County and was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Berry Schools and Shorter College. He was a member of the Georgia Society of Medical Technologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He was associated with the Coosa Valley Pathologists Assn., where he served as manager. He was married on Dec. 18, 1977 to the former Nancy Timmons.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Scott and Steve Herndon of Rome, one stepdaughter, Robyn Black of Rome Rte. 5; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Lambert of Montgomery, Ala. and Mrs. Peggy Cotton of LaGrange; three brothers, P. A. Herndon Jr., of Woodbury, William E. Herndon of Pensacola, Fla. and Bobby J. Herndon of San Diego, Calif.; mother, Mrs. Mary Hawk Herndon Morgan of LaGrange.
