Pioneer Citizen passes Tuesday ; Rites Thursday
A.W. Hart, 85, died at the Floyd county home late Tuesday (20 October 1931) after an extended illness. He came to Rome from Alabama about 68 years ago, to work in a shoe factory being operated at the time and after that concern discontinued business, operated as an independent shoemaker and cobbler. Failing health forced his retirement from business about 10 years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. N. Johnson of Rome.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o'clock Thursday morning from the chapel of Daniel and Son by Rev. Partridge, pastor of the North Rome Methodist church. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, where Cherokee Lodge of Masons will conduct a ritual commitment service.
The following will act as pallbearers: I.T. Braden, G.C. Byers, John Cantre, Presley Esserman, John W. Bale and O.W. Curry.
[Note: Alfred W. Hart was the widower of Frances (Tate) Hart who died ca 1879. He was preceded in death by daughters Josephine (Hart) Gilliam d.o.d. 22 April 1926 in Birmingham, Al; Mary E. Hart, Viola (Hart) Chesser, who died 23 November 1902 in Rome and Rosa Hart. The surving daughter is Cordelia (Hart) Johnson.]
