James Wesley Freeman Dies; Rites Thursday

James Wesley Freeman, 70, a retired farmer and former textile employee, died Tuesday at 9:55 p.m. in a Rome hospital. He had been in declining health for three years, his condition having been critical for three weeks. He resided on Aragon Rte. 1 in the Wax community. Mr. Freeman was born in Floyd County June 11, 1892, son of the late Jeff Davis and Mary Drummond Freeman. He has spent his entire life in Floyd County and prior to his retirement he has been employed by the Pepperell Mfg. Co. He had also engaged in farming prior to his illness. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. He was married Jan. 21, 1917 to the former Miss Ola Shores, who survives. Surviving, beside his wife, are three daughters, Mr. J. C. Beck, Mrs. Inez Buford and Mrs.. P.M. Roberson, all of the Wax community; three sons, J.W. Freeman, Jr. of Cortland, Ohio, Clifton (Bud) Freeman of Wax and Billy Freeman of Rome; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Thrash of Rome, Rte. 4 and Mrs. Kathleen Gross of Rome; six brothers, Eddie Freeman of Waco, Texas, Clarence, Franklin, Doyal, Willie and Tholly Freeman, all of Rome; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Silver Creek Primitive Baptist Church. The Revs. Dewey Pinson, Hosea Mull and W. A. Farr will officiate. Interment will be in the Wax Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 3 until 4 p.m. Thursday. The following will serve as pallbearers: Ralph Morris, Henry Shores, William Thrash, Clinton Freeman, A. D. Freeman and Elmer Freeman. The Board of Deacons and the Brotherhood of the Flint Hill Baptist Church will serve as an honorary escort. The family will receive friends at the Stevens-Davenport funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today. At other hours, they will be at the residence. (Note: died Feb. 26)
