Adairsville-James Hiram Dodd, Sr. 87, Cedartown Rte. 4 died Thursday night in a Rome nursing home following an extended illness.
He was born July 2, 1888 in Bartow County, son of the late James Henry Dodd and Miria (Moriah) Carnes Dodd. He spent most of his life in Bartow County,
moving to Cedartown eight years ago. He attended the Baptist church and waa retired farmer. His wife Kittie Nichols Dodd, died in 1975.
Survivors include two sons, Hugh Dodd, Adairsville, James H. Dodd, Jr. Kingston; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Manning, Adairsville, and Mrs. Margie Bell, Cedartown; one sister, Mrs. Etta Herring, Rome; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Connesena Baptist Church with the Rev. L. V. Wright officiating. Burial will be in East View Cemetery at Adairsville. The body will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour Saturday.
The family will receive friends at the Barton-Jennings-Coulter Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. today.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
