Mrs. Willie Mae Dempsey, 75, 2003 1/2 Flannery St., died unexpectedly Wednesday night in a Rome hospital following a sudden attack suffered a short time earlier in her home. Mrs. Dempsey had been in declining health for a number of years but her death was unexpected.
The former Miss Willie Mae Dodd, she was born in Resaca, June 16, 1882, daughter of the late Mariah Carnes and James Dodd. Prior to moving to Rome last November, Mrs. Dempsey had made her home at Kingston Rt.2, Macedonia Community. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving are the husband, C.N. Dempsey, Rome; two sons, Roger Norman Dempsey, Dalton and Harold Lee Dempsey, Acworth; one sister, Mrs. Etta D. Herring, Rome; one brother; Jim Dodd, Kingston, Rt.3, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Head and the Rev. Harvey Brown officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of the adjoining cemetery.
Six nephews will serve as pallbearers. They include L.A. Dempsey, Hugh Dodd, Jimmy Dodd, Ligon Bailey, Herschel Abner and Gerald Abner.
