Mrs. W. E. Davis, 63, member of a pioneer Rome family, died early today in a Rome hospital following an illness of several weeks, Mrs. Davis lived at 101 Howell St. The former Miss Lona Stevens. Mrs. Davis was born in Rome on June 11, 1893, daughter of the late R. G. and Martha Helms Stevens. She had spent her entire life in Rome and was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. She was married March 26, 1914, to W. Edgar Davis who survives. Surviving beside her husband are five daughters, Mrs. Dave White of Dunellon, Fla., Mrs. William Matthews, of Marietta, Mrs. S. W. Elliott, of Hemmingway S.C.; Mrs. Carl Stringfellow, of Lawndale, Calif, and Miss Katherine Davis, of Rome; three sons, Marvin, of the U.S. Marines, Harold, of Chattanooga, and Herbert, of Rome; three sisters, Mrs. J. H. Kilgo and Miss Pearl Stevens, of Rome and Mrs. J. L. Gossett, of Columbus; two brothers Luther Stevens and Dewey Stephens Sr., of Rome. Fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m., from the chapel of the Stevens Funeral Home. The Rev. W. C. Rucht, pastor of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate with interment in the family lot in East View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Tolbert, Cliff Fowler, Jim Lumpkin, Winston Freeman, Evans Tanner and Lee Ozment.
