BROWN, GRIGGS Patricia Griggs Stricklin [[email protected]

25 Apr 2006

Recently learnt that Lenah W. Griggs was a daughter of Bryant/Bryan Griggs & Roselina Herrin. She married Epps Brown. Lenah's name was probably Linnah & she was probably named after her grandmother, Leonard "Linnah" (Wallis/Wallace) Griggs. There is a variety of spellings for Linnah's name.  Bryant was the brother of Mary Polly Griggs. Bryant & Roselina had the following children: 1. Lenah W. Griggs, 2. Jane E., 3. Mary M., 4. William G., 5. John W. Griggs. Soucre: Fayette County, Ga. Probate Records, abstracted by Jeanette Holland Austin.
I would like to hear from anyone related Epps Brown & Lenah. I am a descendant of Mary Polly Griggs & her husband, Wiley Griggs. Mary Polly's parents were Leonard "Linnah" Wallis Griggs & Wiley Griggs. Mary Polly's line goes back to the immigrant Thomas Griggs of Lancaster County, Va.

I am searching for information about Benjamin Church who lived in Fayette co Ga in the 1820's. His daughter Jane Church born 1807-1810 married Solomon Ray in 1829 in Henry co Ga. I know Benjamin Church owned land in Fayette co Ga in the 1820's and when Campbell co Ga was formed I believe his land was then in Campbell co Ga. Any reference anyone could find for a Benjamin Church in Fayette co Ga in the 1820's would be greatly appreciated.
The orphans of Solomon ray won land in the 1821 Ga land lottery. They were living in Jasper co Ga and won land Fayette co ga section 14 lot 131. Could someone tell me where district 14 lot 131 was located and if the orphans of Solomon Ray claimed this land?
Benjamin Church lived in Fayette co Ga in the late 1820's. Someone sent me info that Benjamin Church and his son Gabrel(listed as Benson Church) were listed in the 1827 Fayette co Ga tax digest(it might have been 1829) It appears they were paying tax on land they owned in Appling co Ga.or they had lost their land because of taxes (I could not understand the record) I am trying to find out if Benjamin Church owned any land in Fayette co Ga in the 1820's or if there are any records that make a reference to Benjamin Church. Any reference to a Benjamin Church that someone might have in one of their resources would be appreciated

DAVIS Sandy Otos  ([email protected])

15 Jun 2006

The James Sherwood Davis family has claimed Catherine Davis b. 1803 GA as their daughter. She married Allen Post. I think this is an error. I think Catherine Davis was the daughter of George Davis and Rebeckah Martin. George Davis is listed on the Tax List of 1823 and census of 1830. He may have been related to Thomas R. Davis whose estate was on the 1823 Tax List, because he named a son Thomas R. Davis.
Catherine Davis is living in Coweta Co. in 1830 next to a James J. Davis. I am sure she is related to him, but he is not a son of James Sherwood Davis. His son James is James G. Davis.  George Davis and Rebeckah had a daughter b. 1804 who is unknown. Her sister Charity Davis named a daughter Catherine. Also George Davis had a son b. 1805 named John A. Davis. He married Mary Ann Yates in Fayette Co. Henry Davis, either a son or nephew of George Davis, married Rebecca Shelnut in Fayette Co. Catherine Davis Post named a son John A. Davis, as seen in the 1850 census of Coweta Co.
I am looking for information on George Davis, John A. Davis, Henry Davis, Allen Post, John C. Davis, and James Davis of the 1824 Tax List.
George Davis came to Fayette Co. from Hall Co. Previous to Hall Co. he had lived and worked on Cherokee land, and before 1800 had lived in Pendleton, S. Carolina. After Fayette Co., he moved to Walker County before 1840, and died there in 1849.

DESHAZIER, DESHAZO, WILLOUGHBY, DESHASIER, VESSELLES, DAVIS, DESHAZER, PATE, DRENNAN

B. Yamagami ([email protected])

24 Oct 2002

I am interested in sharing information with descendants connected to my 2nd great grandfather, Aaron Deshazier . Aaron was the only known child of John Deshazo/Deshazer and Mahaly WILLOUGHBY (md. 1833 Houston Co., GA) and was a member of the "Fayette Grey Guards" during the Civil War. Aaron joined the Guards in May of 1861. His first wife was "Letha" (could be Aletha or Althia) PATE. There is a record of an Aaron Deshasier marrying a Catharine VESSELLE(S) in late 1863. A Milly Deshasier is shown on the 1870 census in the home of David and Eady DRENNAN in Fayette Co. Milly married E.B. DAVIS in 1878. I don't know if Milly was Aaron's daughter or not. I would appreciate corresponding with descendants on the lines of DESHAZIER/DESHAZO, PATE (Letha was dau. of Johnston), VESSELLE(S), DAVIS (I don't know who E.B. was), WILLOUGHBY, and DRENNAN. I have some suspiscions but no facts regarding why Milly was in the home of the Drennans.
