In 1850, a Matthew YATES and his wife, Martha, were living in
Fayette Co., GA. Matthew was 48 years old, born in Virginia.
Martha, 54, was born in Georgia. Two sons were living with them
-- Lacy, aged 21, and Augustus N, aged 19. George M YATES, 25,
was enumerated in the 1850 Fayette Co, GA census also. Joseph G.
YATES, 22, was living there with Gainey WESTBROOK. I also
recorded the marriage of a John DAVIS and Mary YATES in Fayette
Co, GA on 19 July 1826. Could anyone tell me if this Yates family
was related to the Yates family from Upson County, GA? My Willis
YATES, who married Sarah Ann DAVIS in Upson County, moved to
LaFayette Co., Arkansas sometime after the 1850 census. Willis
had a son named Matthew D YATES, and, supposedly, a brother named
George YATES, who never left Georgia, but visited Willis in
Arkansas. J W YATES, Mathew YATES Jr, and Bowling C YATES are all
buried at the Fayetteville City Cemetery. I would like to know
something about this YATES family, particularly anything that
might link them to my Willis and Sarah Yates from Upson County,
GA.
