Descendants of Bennett Youngblood

 Generation One

1.  Bennett1 YOUNGBLOOD was born circa 1790 at Edgefield Co., SC.  He died circa 1848 at Fayette Co., GA.

               Bennett Youngblood migrated from Edgefield Co., SC to Fayette Co., GA about 1826 because his daughter, Minerva was born in Fayette Co., GA in 1827.

     The best evidence available indicates that Bennett Youngblood is the father of John Thomas Youngblood who is first found age 18, born SC in the 1850 Census in Fayette Co., GA. Bennett Youngblood is found in the 1820 Census in Edgefield Co., SC , he is next found in the 1830 Census in Fayette Co., GA with two males in his household age 5-9 (John Thomas age 8). Bennett Youngblood is next found in the 1840 Census in Fayette Co., GA with one male in his household age 15-19 (John Thomas age 18).

     Bennett Youngblood, Lamberth's district, Fayette Co., GA, drew lot #283, 8th District, 1st Section in the 1832 "Cherokee" Georgia Land lottery. He was sworn in on a petit jury for Fayette Co., GA on 10 Mar 1834. Bennett Youngblood paid taxes in Fayette Co., GA until 1847 so he probably died in 1848.

         Bennett Youngblood died in 1848 in Fayette Co., GA and his unknown wife died before 1850. The 1850 Census for Fayette Co., GA shows Bennett's son, Benjamin Franklin Youngblood, age 22, as head of household with three siblings, Mary Ann, age 20, Sarah, age 19 and Albert, age 13 living in his household. Benjamin Franklin's occupation is listed as farmer and his personal property is listed as $150.

 

     Children of Bennett1 Youngblood include:

                      i.   Allen2 was born in 1810 at SC.

                      ii.   William was born in 1814 at SC.

              2.    iii.   John Thomas Cad was born on 22 May 1822 at Edgefield Co., SC.  He married Mary Catherine "Martha" Wesley, daughter of Evans Wesley and Margaret McClellan Price, on 11 May 1848 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., GA.  He married Catherine (--?--) in 1858 at Fayette Co., GA.  He died on 17 Dec 1861 at Civil War, VA, at age 39.

                    iv.   Benjamin Franklin was born on 22 Aug 1825 at Edgefield Co., SC.  He married Sarah Frances Pharr on 22 Sep 1850 at Fayette Co., GA.  He died in Sep 1876 at Fayette Co., GA, at age 51.  He was buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Flat Creek, Fayette Co., GA.

     Benjamin Franklin Youngblood  Enlisted in the Confederate Army on November 16, 1862 at Newnan, Georgia in Company H, 12th Georgia Calvary as a private. On January 30, 1863 he was listed at Fayetteville, Tennessee. On July 17, 1864 he was listed as sick. In April 1865  he was captured at Macon, Georgia.

                     v.   Minerva was born circa 1827 at Fayette Co., GA.

                    vi.   Mary Ann was born circa 1830 at Fayette Co., GA.

                    vii.   Sarah Ann was born circa 1831 at Fayette Co., GA.  She married Joel K. Pollard on 21 Oct 1849 at Fayette Co., GA.

                   viii.   Abraham was born circa 1833 at Fayette Co., GA.

                    ix.   George was born circa 1835 at Fayette Co., GA.

                     x.   Albert was born circa 1837 at Fayette Co., GA.

 

Generation Two

2.  John Thomas Cad2 YOUNGBLOOD (Bennett1) was born on 22 May 1822 at Edgefield Co., SC.  He married Mary Catherine "Martha" Wesley, daughter of Evans Wesley and Margaret McClellan Price, on 11 May 1848 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., GA.  He married Catherine (--?--) in 1858 at Fayette Co., GA.  He died on 17 Dec 1861 at Civil War, VA, at age 39.

    

     John Thomas Youngblood, age 28 b. Edgefield Co., SC is found in the 1850 Census for Fayette Co., GA with his wife Martha, age 23 and son William J., age 6 months.  His wife Martha died 28 Feb 1858 and he married Catherine Unknown, age 18, in 1858.

     He is found in the 1860 Census for Fayette Co., GA , age 33 b. SC with his wife  Catherine age 20 b. GA and four children by Martha and one daughter, Martha J. age 8 months,  by his second wife. His occupation is listed as farmer and his real estate value is $500 and Personal Estate was $250.

     John Thomas Cad Youngblood enlisted as a private in Company F, 13th Regiment, Georgia Infantry  as C. Thomas  Youngblood on July 8, 1861.  He was killed in action during skirmishes at Sewell Mountain and Cotton Hill, Virginia on Dec. 17, 1861.

     Company F, 13th Regiment Georgia Infantry was organized in Fayette County in June 1861 with 86 men enrolled.  On July 1st it was sent to Griffin, Ga.  The regiment was mustered into service the 8th of July 1861; was provided with tents, etc. Shortly after it was ordered to Decatur, Ga., then to Richmond, Va. where it went into camp. About the 1st of September it was armed with flint and steel muskets, was ordered to West Virginia, and was attached to Floyd's Brigade.

     We were engaged in only two little skirmishes, at Sewell Mountain and Cotton Hill, Va.  We suffered much for want of supplies and cold weather.  We had to destroy all camp equipment in compliance with orders from the General commanding.  At the close of the campaign in December the regiment was detached from Floyd's Brigade and ordered to Savannah, Ga.  The regiment reached Savannah, Ga. the last of December 1861.  It was engaged most of the time in fortifying the city.  No engagement, except one little skirmish on White Marsh Island, and the casualties were light. 

     The regiment was now supplied with Enfield Rifles and the necessary camp equipage.  On the 7th of June the Brigade was ordered to Virginia.  On reaching Staunton the Brigade was attached to Stonewall Jackson's Corps.  Then commenced the celebrated march to McLellan's Run, (?) near Richmond.  The company's first general engagement was at Cold Harbor June 27, 1862.  We suffered severely in killed and wounded.  At Malvern Hill on July 2, 1862, the loss was considerable.

     John Thomas Youngblood's children are found in various households in Fayette County in the 1870 Census. His sons George (Washington), age 16 and (John) Thomas, age 12 are found  living in the household of Matthew Yates, age 68. Jack (Wesley Jackson) Youngblood, age 16 is found living in the household of  John Smith, age 30.

     His oldest son William Joseph Thomas Youngblood has not been located in the 1870 Census. He is next found in Douglas Co., GA where he married Nancy Drury Self on 8 Jul 1875.

 

     Children of John Thomas Cad2 Youngblood and Mary Catherine "Martha" Wesley all born at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., GA, were as follows:

              3.     i.   William Joseph Thomas "Tom"3 was born on 20 Oct 1849.  He married Nancy Drury Self, daughter of John Drury Self and Leah W. Watson, on 8 Jul 1875 at Douglas Co., GA.  He married Exer Parentha Mitchell on 4 Sep 1898 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  He died on 27 Jan 1935 at age 85.

                      ii.   Samuel Cad was born on 4 Jan 1851.  He died on 19 Jul 1943 at Elbert, Throckmorton Co., TX, at age 92.

                     iii.   George Washington was born in 1853.  He married Sarah Ayers circa 1874.

                    iv.   Wesley Jackson was born on 25 Jun 1854.  He married Mary Susan "Molly" Baugh circa 1875.  He died in 1925.

                     v.   John Thomas was born in 1856.

     Children of John Thomas Cad2 Youngblood and Catherine (--?--) both born at Fayette Co., GA, were as follows:

                      i.   Martha J.3 was born in 1859.

                      ii.   Susan was born circa 1861.

Generation Three

3.  William Joseph Thomas "Tom"3 YOUNGBLOOD (John Thomas Cad2, Bennett1) was born on 20 Oct 1849 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., GA.  He married Nancy Drury Self, daughter of John Drury Self and Leah W. Watson, on 8 Jul 1875 at Douglas Co., GA.  He married Exer Parentha Mitchell on 4 Sep 1898 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  He died on 27 Jan 1935 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX, at age 85.  He was buried at Glade Creek Cemetery, Upshur Co., TX.

          William Joseph Thomas "Tom" Youngblood's brother, Samuel Cad Youngblood, identified his parents as John Youngblood and Martha Wesley on his death certificate.

     Tom Youngblood's mother, Martha Wesley, died when he was 9 years old and his father, John Thomas Youngblood, died about 1864 in Fayette Co., GA leaving him as an orphan at age 16. His step-mother was unable to support nine children so they were adopted by several neighborhood families.

          Tom Youngblood is next found in Douglas Co., GA where he married Nancy Drury Self on 8 Jul 1875. They moved to Athens, Clarke Co., GA where their first child, Mattie was born on 17 Jun 1876 and John Thomas Youngblood was born on 30 Jun 1878.

      In 1879 Tom Youngblood and his family joined a wagon train and migrated to Camp Co., TX. Tom Youngblood, his wife Nancy, children Mattie and John Thomas  and his sister, Susan Youngblood, are found in the 1880 Census for Camp Co., TX. In the fall of 1880, they moved from Camp County to the Shady Grove community in Upshur County, TX.

 

     Children of William Joseph Thomas "Tom"3 Youngblood and Nancy Drury Self were as follows:

                      i.   Mattie Lovenia4 was born on 17 Jun 1876 at Clarke Co., GA.  She married Walter McDonald Craig circa 1896.  She died in Nov 1960 at Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, at age 84.

                      ii.   John Thomas "Tommy" was born on 30 Jun 1878 at Athens, Clarke Co., GA.  He married Laura E. Adams, daughter of Edward Jefferson "Bud" Adams and Teresa Caroline Catlett, on 22 Dec 1901 at Upshur Co., TX.  He died on 3 Jan 1963 at Gladewater, Gregg Co., TX, at age 84.  He was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pritchett, Upshur Co., TX.

    

     John Thomas "Tommy" Youngblood was born on 30 Jun 1878 in Athens, Clark Co., GA. In 1879, when he was one year old, his father joined a wagon train and migrated to Camp Co., TX. Tom Youngblood, his wife Nancy, children Mattie and John Thomas  and his sister, Susan Youngblood, are found in the 1880 Census for Camp Co., TX. In the fall of 1880, they moved from Camp County to the Shady Grove community in Upshur County.

     John Thomas married Laura E. Adams on 22 Dec 1901 and he moved to the Ming's Chapel area of Upshur County where he purchased 115 acres of land. Tom and Laura farmed this land and raised four sons and three daughters on their farm.

      They lived the remainder of their lives on their farm. Laura Adams Youngblood died 7 Sep 1953 from breast cancer. John Thomas Youngblood died 1 Jan 1963 from asthma. They are both buried at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Pritchett area of Upshur County.

                     iii.   Annie Maude was born on 7 Jul 1880 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  She married John Franklin Mitchell circa 1900.  She died in 1973 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.

                    iv.   Edgar Marvin "Ed" was born on 18 Sep 1884 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  He married Lilly Friday circa 1905.  He died on 4 Oct 1937 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX, at age 53.

                     v.   V. William E. "Will" was born on 28 Jun 1885 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  He married Birdie Lee Ramsey circa 1906.  He died on 29 Dec 1916 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX, at age 31.  He was buried at Glade Creek Cemetery, Upshur Co., TX.

                    vi.   James Hezzie "Jim" was born on 3 May 1889 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  He married Mattie Everline Dobbins circa 1910.  He died on 15 Dec 1961 at Jefferson, Marion Co., TX, at age 72.

                    vii.   Fanny Robertha "Bertha" was born on 17 Jan 1894 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  She married Frank Little on 25 Dec 1910.  She died in 1967 at Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.

                   viii.   Myrtle Leown was born on 25 Oct 1895 at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX.  She died in 1897 at Upshur Co., TX.

 

     Children of William Joseph Thomas "Tom"3 Youngblood and Exer Parentha Mitchell all born at Gilmer, Upshur Co., TX, were as follows:

                      i.   Joseph Lee4 was born on 15 Aug 1902.  He died in 1978 at TX.

                      ii.   Sam "Red Sam" was born on 15 Feb 1904.  He died in 1978 at TX.

                     iii.   Jack was born on 8 Jul 1906.  He died in 1986 at TX.
