She may
have been the daughter of Tighlman "Tillman" Tilley and Prudence Pressley. So, maybe John Thomas took the
name of Tilley. I found the grave
of Prudence on a cemetery website, but Tighlman wasn't buried there. It was in the Tilley Church Cemetery
which either Tighlman or his
son, Benjamin was supposed to have founded. the little church was
there too. She was the only Tilley
that I think was from this family buried there. I think Tighlman was killed
in 1864 of Chronic Disentery
while serving Union Army during the Civil War. I don't know where he is buried, but have found he
died in Pulaski, TN. Anything you can give me would be
appreciated.

I am interested in my STEPP family geneology from Blue Ridge/Sugar
Creek GA. relatives, and how we came to migrate to this area. My
father, Donald Hugh Stepp, died suddenly last april 30th 2011. He was
74. I loved him dearly and miss him very much. As a way to deal with
his passing, I have started to look back into our family geneology. My
Grandfather was the Late Rev. Claude K. Stepp (Baptist, died 1964,
Bartow County/Cartersville GA). I have discovered my father's
grandfather was William ('Ole Bill) Stepp, Methodist Preacher) and his
wife was Missouri Patterson Stepp. His father ( William's) was George
Chapel Stepp, a son of Nelson Colbey Stepp, and Temperence (Tempy)
Mincey/Stepp his mother, all from Fannin/Blue Ridge/Sugar Creek area. I
know that having visited Blue Ridge with Mom and dad as a younger boy
that we had an Aunt Ethyl Stepp/Callihan, husband. luther, and Aunt Ida
(Idie Sstepp/Ledford, husband Bert/Burt. they lived in an area of what
is now off of Tennis Court Rd, Sugar Creek, close to Week's/Weak's old
store. Thankfully, Dad and i rode around in that area about 15 years
ago and he showed me where he used to play when he was a little boy
during the summers spent at his Grandpa Stepp's.
My best friend also found that a prominent man during the time of the
Civil War was Jesse Stepp, (possible brother of Nelson Colbey Stepp), a
North Carolina native who owned the most part of what is now Mt.
Mitchell, N.C. . I do have a picture of him by the way, but none of my
direct great/great grandparents and am looking extensively for any that
might be out there. I hope to come up to Blue Ridge soon and look
through the old archives and talk with some of the locals and relatives
more about our family and it's past. Thank you in advance for any
help with my research, if at all possible.

I'm
trying to locate any information on a murder committed in the Hot House
district of Fannin Co., on June 19, 1889, an account of same appeared
in the Marietta Journal the following day. The victim was an 18
yr. old boy named James Ballew who was shot and instantly killed at a
"house of ill-fame" by a man named Olvey. To further quote the
newspaper, "they got into a wrangle, when the woman ordered Olvey to
leave. He left the house but soon returned and called Ballew out,
saying he wanted to make friends with him. When Ballew stepped
out into the yard, Olvey shot him dead in his tracks and made his
escape. Sheriff Wilson is in pursuit, but it is thought the
murderer has made good his escape. Olvey is a bad character and
is said to have killed two men previously."

Brenda Danielson. Can
you
help me find where my ancestor lived in Union County, Georgia? I
found
him in the Georgia Property Tax Digests, 1793-1893. His name was
James
L. BAILEY. The list doesn't give me much info to go on, but I
hope you
have access to more records. He is in Union County in all the
Census
data for many years. He also owned land in Fannin County.

Looking for any and all information on the family of Benjamin Kiker. My husband I will
be traveling from Athens, GA to see the cemetery and take photos. I hope to
visit the court house and see there there might be wills or probate records.
Then maybe the library too, if they have a genealogy department. Benjamin
lived this whole life in Fannin County, GA and raised a very large family
and served in the Civil War as a confederate soldier where he was wounded
in the head and left disabled after that. Any help or suggestions would
greatly be appreciated. Please also contact
