Army Experiences: Left Echols County at age of sixteen years and joined the U.S. Army. Saw service at US-Mexico
border, Philippines and France. He received Silver Star and Purple Heart Medals during WW1. He kept
communications open for seven hours during a fierce battle, after being wounded from several rifle bullets and Musterd Gas over most of his body. A cassette is on file at the Statenville Library relating to his war experiences written and sung by his son, Paul Minton. He was Grandson of Joseph M. Minton and Rachel Jane Nobles Minton and grew up in their home at the "old Minton place" near Statenville, Ga. The family of Joseph Andrew Minton has contributed several items to form a display in his Honor at the Echols County Historical Society Museum. |
