Douglas County was formed by an act of the
Georgia Legislature October 17, 1870 taking the land lying north
of the Chattahoochee River from Campbell and a portion of eastern
Carroll. The county has an area of 201 square miles. The population
in 1950 was 12,195. Douglas County was named for Stephen
A. Douglas. The County seat is Douglasville. The original
