My research efforts are on the AYERS family. John B. Ayers and
his wife had 4 children that I've found names for. One of them
was James B. Ayers, b. 15 Sept 1819, probably in Columbia County,
GA. I've found records that show he died in Douglas County, GA.
James served in the U.S. Army in the War of 1849, better known
as the Mexican War. It is his pension application which provides
us with most of this info He was my great-grandfather. I would
like any info on AYERS, and his wife's family HOUSEWORTH. Where
she came from, her parents? What cemetery is he buried in Douglas
County GA? Any help will be appreciated.

My query is not for me, but rather for the Douglas County Cemetery
Preservation Commission. Near W. High Point Drive, east of S.
Burnt Hickory -- in the woods near the Oglethorpe Power right-of-way,
we have found several items, including: a marker base reading,
"In God We Trust", a plot marker that simply reads
Bagby (found in the middle of an old road bed), and one marker
that is clearly out of place that reads, Mrs. Gordon Rainwaters,
October 14 1886 - February 28, 1933. We have not located the
cemetery itself. If anyone visiting this page can tell us where
it is, we would be very grateful.

I'm looking for the maiden name and parents of Mary Magdalene
Ann who married John Thomas Carnes. She was born about 1790 in
South Carolina and died about 1869 in Winston, Douglas Co. GA,
buried New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Villa Rica. I'm also
trying to confirm that John Thomas Carnes' mother was the Comfort
Cash, daughter of Joseph Cash and Elizabeth Bryant, who married
Joseph Carnes 11/12/1783 in Goochland Co. NC and is buried Old
Harmony Grove Cemetery, Paulding Co. GA. I suspect the Cash and
Carnes families migrated into Carroll Co. together around 1828.
John Thomas Carnes had already built a cabin on land drawn in
the 1832 lottery by Elizabeth Farmer and had to buy the land
from her. Please list me on the Douglas Co. GA page on USGenWeb

Sat Feb 1 21:30:23 1997
I am looking for additional information regarding James Dorris
and -his son- Jasper Newton Dorris. Jasper served in the confederate
army during the Civil War (Company A, 22nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer
Infantry). Jasper is my great grandfather. All leads are greatly
appreciated. The following is excerpts from: The Dorris Family:
Pioneers of Milton County (by Caroline Dillman from "The
Alpharetta Revue") "James Dorris owned hundreds of
acres of land in the Crabapple area and ran a store there. The
customers who patronized his store included indians as well as
whites. A list of persons who bought from and traded with James
Dorris from 1835 to 1844 is included here. James Dorris was born
in 1801 and died in 1877. He married Nancy Cook, an indian, who
was born in 1799 and died in 1887. James Dorris was born in Abbeyville,
South Carolina;later resided in Augusta, Georgia and in Jefferson
Jackson County, Georgia; and eventually moved to what was originally
Cherokee County but became a part of Milton County and is now
part of Fulton County. His father, also James Dorris (probably
Sr.)was originally from Holland and had two brothers, William
and John. There seems to be no record of Williams descendants,
and most of John's decendants settled in Douglas County, Georgia.
The younger James Dorris, who had the store, was the father of
eight children, four of whom died young and four lived to have
children of their own. These latter four were W.C. Dorris, who
married Mary Galehaugh;Permelia Dorris, who married W.D. Ruker;
Elizabeth Dorris who married N.W.H. Cook; and J. Newton Dorris,
who married Fannie Gillispie." The Ledger Accounts of The

I am looking for the marriage record of Newton J. Taylor and
Minerva J. ________? Newton J. was living in Carroll Co. on the
1870 census. On the 1880 census they lived in Carroll Co. and
had several children. I believe that Minerva J. probably lived
in an adjoining county and that is where they were married. There
is no record of their marriage in Carroll Co. so I am searching
the surrounding counties in hopes of finding a record there.
The marriage probably took place around 1873. Thanks for your
help.
