My research efforts are on the AYERS family. John B. Ayers and his wife had 4 children that I've found names for. One of them was James B. Ayers, b. 15 Sept 1819, probably in Columbia County, GA. It is his pension application which provides us with most of this info He was my great-grandfather. I would like any info on AYERS, and his wife's family HOUSEWORTH. Where she came from, her parents? What cemetery is he buried in Douglas County GA? Any help will be appreciated.

BAGBY, RAINWATERS
Sandy Whittington Sun Feb 9 12:39:49 1997
My query is not for me, but rather for the Douglas County Cemetery Preservation Commission. Near W. High Point Drive, east of S. Burnt Hickory -- in the woods near the Oglethorpe Power right-of-way, we have found several items, including: a marker base reading, "In God We Trust", a plot marker that simply reads Bagby (found in the middle of an old road bed), and one marker that is clearly out of place that reads, Mrs. Gordon Rainwaters, October 14 1886 - February 28, 1933. We have not located the cemetery itself. If anyone visiting this page can tell us where it is, we would be very grateful.

Carnes

John Thomas Carnes had already built a cabin on land drawn in the 1832 lottery by Elizabeth Farmer and had to buy the land from her. Please list me on the Douglas Co. GA page on USGenWeb as a researcher of this Carnes family. My home page is http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/o/s/Paul-A-Rose/index.html My e-mail is [email protected]

J. Scott Dorris Sat Feb 1 21:30:23 1997
I am looking for additional information regarding James Dorris and -his son- Jasper Newton Dorris. Jasper served in the confederate army during the Civil War (Company A, 22nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry). Jasper is my great grandfather. All leads are greatly appreciated. The following is excerpts from: The Dorris Family: Pioneers of Milton County (by Caroline Dillman from "The Alpharetta Revue") "James Dorris owned hundreds of acres of land in the Crabapple area and ran a store there. The customers who patronized his store included indians as well as whites. A list of persons who bought from and traded with James Dorris from 1835 to 1844 is included here. James Dorris was born in 1801 and died in 1877. He married Nancy Cook, an indian, who was born in 1799 and died in 1887. James Dorris was born in Abbeyville, South Carolina;later resided in Augusta, Georgia and in Jefferson Jackson County, Georgia; and eventually moved to what was originally Cherokee County but became a part of Milton County and is now part of Fulton County. His father, also James Dorris (probably Sr.)was originally from Holland and had two brothers, William and John. There seems to be no record of Williams descendants, and most of John's decendants settled in Douglas County, Georgia. The younger James Dorris, who had the store, was the father of eight children, four of whom died young and four lived to have children of their own. These latter four were W.C. Dorris, who married Mary Galehaugh;Permelia Dorris, who married W.D. Ruker; Elizabeth Dorris who married N.W.H. Cook; and J. Newton Dorris, who married Fannie Gillispie." SPEAR
George Spear 14 Sep 1998
Date: Mon, 14 Sep 1998 20:12:26 -0700 Lewis W. SPEAR lived in Douglas County, GA in 1880. He was 54 years old. His wife (probably his 2nd) was about 38. They had children: John A. J. Spear - 13 in 1880, Frances L. (daughter), 4 in 1880. He lived in district 1260. He lived in the southwest corner of the county where it adjoins Carroll County. Lewis is the brother to my great grandfather, Elbridge Spear. Lewis and Elbridge's father was Jesse Spear who lived in Jasper County, GA from around 1824 (?) until his death shortly after the Civil War. Lewis and his father owned land very close to the railroad station in Atlanta and oral history of the family states that the family had to flee when Sherman began his abominations in Atlanta. Am searching for any descendants of Lewis W. Spear and will share all information.

Taylor
Ann Nicholas Wed Oct 2 19:39:23 1996
I am looking for the marriage record of Newton J. Taylor and Minerva J. ________? Newton J. was living in Carroll Co. on the 1870 census. On the 1880 census they lived in Carroll Co. and had several children. I believe that Minerva J. probably lived in an adjoining county and that is where they were married. There is no record of their marriage in Carroll Co. so I am searching the surrounding counties in hopes of finding a record there. The marriage probably took place around 1873. Thanks for your help.
