Colquitt County Message Board
Links and Announcements
The RootsWeb.com GenConnect boards and Ancestry.com boards have been combined
into one board. You can post queries, Bible records, obits, wills, deeds, pension
records, and marriage records. You can search by record type as well as see the
entire board listing. All messages are gatewayed (sent to) to the free Colquitt
County Email Discussion List.
Posting a Query or Data: To post a query or data, click on
"Post a New Message". You will be given a form to fill out that includes your
name and email address (which will be filled in for you if you are logged in),
a classification box, a surname box, a subject line box, and a message box.
Surname Box: List only the surnames in your message, not
all surnames you are researching. Separate names with a comma.
Example: Jones, Smith, Baker
Classification Box: Near the bottom is a classification box. The
default box appears empty. If you leave it that way, your posting will be classified
as a "Query". If your post is a question, please make sure the classification remains
Query. If you are posting real data (wills, obits, deeds/land grants, military pensions,
bible records, etc.), PLEASE select an appropriate category. That will enable other
researchers to find your information quickly. Only data postings (those containing
actual wills, deeds, obits, etc) should have a classification other than Query.
A question about a particular deed, obit, will, etc. should be classified as a Query.
Please use "Lookup" only for:
requesting a lookup in a specific record/book
(i.e. John Smith on the 1880 Colquitt County, GA Census)
reporting the results of a specific lookup
offering to do a lookup
Subject Line Box: Be specific, use names and general time frame.
Example of a good subject line: John R. Smith, late 1800s
Example of a bad subject line: my grandfather
Searching: If you want to search the entire board for a particular
surname, simply type that name in the Search box. Be careful though -- if you want
to search only the Colquitt County Board, you will need to change the default search
button. If you only want to see obits (or some other classification), then choose
Obituary (or the correct classification) under the View Message Type box.
