The Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society provides many opportunities to help members learn more about genealogical research and resources through meetings, workshops, special interest groups, field trips, and online instruction.

Meetings are usually held on the third Saturday at 2:00 pm four times a year in the months of February, May, August, and November in the Athens-Clarke County Public Library Multipurpose Room A, but variations in this schedule are not uncommon. Special events and activities are usually held in months without meetings, and may include research field trips, expos, holiday celebrations, historical preservation, out of town speakers, etc. Meetings, activities, and special events are announced in the COGS Quarterly, via email, Facebook, Twitter, and at this web site on the Meetings page. Although most meetings are free and open to the public, membership is encouraged to enable us to bring in quality speakers that will help further our understanding as family history researchers. Dues are also used to purchase resources for local libraries and offset costs to preserve historical data.

Check out the photos of members and guests as they enjoy some of the many COGS activities.

Need an idea on how to share your family research with others? Elizabeth Howells has graciously written up an explanation of her Family Cookbook Project that she brought to the October 2009 meeting. Follow the link to read what she did and see sample pages. We hope to add more ideas to our website in the future.

Laura Carter graciously shared the handout she created for the April 2012 COGS meeting. Even if you attended the program on Resources for Genealogical and Historical Resources you should download the pdf version, so you can click on the web addresses!

Special interest groups provide an informal opportunity for members working in particular areas of research to get together to problem solve and focus on resources and techniques available to assist them with their research.
