RAKESTRAW

My great-grandfather's name was Rakestraw (I do not know his first name), and he was pure Cherokee. His daughter was my grandmother,Sarah Elizabeth Rakestraw. I am looking for information about his name and family, as well as any confirmation of his Cherokee bloodline.

RUEDE

I am researching the family of Augustus David Ruede. His daughter, Mary L. Ruede, b. 1850 was married to a Herndon before 1870, and had two children, Cora P. b. 1865 and Jessie F. b. 1867. I can find no record of her husband, as she lived with her father in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. I would appreciate any information on Mary's husband. Thank you. (Posted 7/27/2007) Email me

SCOGGINS

I am researching Scoggins that were in Cobb co., from 1840-1880. Sylvanous Scoggins born 1802; I don't know when he died or where he was buried. He came from Abbeville, SC. He had 2 wives. Julia A. and Polly, they had many children, I will not list here, but my line comes from Sylvanous and Polly's child, John Andrew. John Andrew married Manda Caroline Copeland. She left the Cobb Co., Ga area with her children and moved to MS. sometime before 1880. John Andrew Scoggins, the father, my great grandfahter, died just before this point as he is listed on the 1870 census. I have not found where he might be buried in Powder Springs, but would like to find that out. They had a set of twins in 1869 Nancy Sylvanie and John Sylvanous. John Sylvanous was my grandfather. They (the twins) were listed on the 1870 census as born in Nov 1869. In 1880 M.C. Scoggins was in DeSota co., MS without John Andrew, but with all of the children.

SPRUCE

Hello, I am researching my Great Grandfather Thomas H. SPRUCE, born abt 1822 in South Carolina.

He and and his two brothers married SHUPTRINE sisters in Cobb County. His brother William married Elizabeth SHUPTRINE in 1836, Thomas married LUVICEY SHUPTRINE in 1841 and George married CAROLINE SHUPTRINE in 1842. Supposedly, Thomas's family had a tragedy and LUVICEY and their children died or were killed and buried in Cobb County.

Thomas was so bereft he left Cobb County and moved to Texas to be near his brother. Thomas died 1883 in Texas. He married his second wife abt 1866, possibly in Georgia.

Thank you,

Betty Worley
