Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery is a very old cemetery. It was founded circa 1837. Among its inhabitants are many early Cobb County residents, several Civil War heroes (one a Yankee) and a veteran of the Revolutionary War - Captain John Collins. Captain John Collins was quite the Patriot and was captured by the British and British loyalists two or three times. He was sentanced to death three times, but, oviously, avoided it each time. Of course, when I say the "early Cobb County residents", I mean the same batch of names - Blackwells, Mabry's, Chastain's, etc. Of course, each cemetery has its own family names. In this case, Orr, McEver and Prichard seem to be very common names, followed by Adair, England and Hefner. The cemetery, located off of Mars Hill Church Road, is very well-maintained and is very pretty and relaxing. Looking at the building on the premises, it would be safe to say that the church has buried more members than it has.
