Hickory Grove Cemetery is located on Hickory Grove Road in Kennesaw, GA. It is a well-maintained cemetery of roughly 400 graves. Many have stones that have been replaced. About 20 graves are marked by unreadable stones or fieldstones. The earliest stone seems to be about 1890. One grave carried the notation "KKK". One or two others seemed to carry other "white supremecist" messages. Frankly, it was somewhat spooky. Like many cemeteries, there are names that seem to repeat. The most common seems to be Kuykendall or some variation thereof. Other common names are Cox, Foster, Scroggs, Ridings, Folds and Prather. The entrance to the cemetery has an extremely foreboding sign warning visitors that they are being watched and that those dumping garbage will be prosecuted.
