Attached
is the scanned page from the 1882 Crow family Bible that Thomas
Monroe Crow gave his bride, Almedia Mariah Walker, probably the
Christmas of 1882. They married in September. The "Presentation
Page" is torn but you can see that it was given to "A.M.
Crow on Christmas 18 __". The date of copyright on the Bible
is 1881. I have other pages from the Bible of births of the children,
several of whom were born in Carroll County. Several children
died, but by that time Thomas and Almedia were living in Courtland,
Lawrence County, Alabama. They carried one or two infants back
to Carrollton to be buried per the notes in the Bible. Thomas
became the "Town Marshall" of Courtland and served
in that capacity for 30 years. His obituary states that "All
business houses and garages were closed for the funeral."
He died in 1929. Elba Barnes |
