D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before me Thomas Simonton, a Justice of the Peace, duly authorized to administer oaths within and for the County and State aforesaid, George M. Lanier aged 61 years, a resident of Clarke County in the State of Georgia who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical George M. Lanier who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Garrett L. Sandridge in the Second regiment of Georgia Militia commanded by Colonel Walton Harris Jr. / Colonel Daniel Newman in the War with the Creek Indians that he volunteered at Carnesville Franklin County Georgia on or about Twentieth day of August A. D. 1813 for the sum of Six Months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of Six Months & 12 days and was honorably discharged at Milledgeville Georgia on or about this First day of March A. D. 1814 on account of the expiration of his term of service as will appear by The Muster Rolls of Said Company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty; land to which he may be entitled under the " act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States, " Setember 28th, 1850. And I hereby certify, that I believe the said George M Lanier to be the identical man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the age above stated, Thomas Simonton J. P. D. 1814 for the term of Six months and continued in actual service in said war for the sum of Six Months --- four days and was honorably discharged at Sparta, Georgia on or about the Twelfth day of March A. D. 1815 on account of the expiration of the War as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said Company. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty; land to which he may be entitled under the " act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States, " September 28th, 1850. Form of Declaration for widow of a deceased officer or soldier State of Georgia County of Clarke On this Fifteenth day of May A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for a resident of Clarke County in the State of Georgia. JP who is duly sworn according to law, declares that the widow of George M Lanier, deceased, who was a non-confirmed officer I think, in the company commanded by Captain Benjamin Cleveland in the --- Regiment of Georgia Militia commanded by Colonel Jenkins or Morrison (I think) in the war with Creek Indians That her husband Volunteered or was drafted at Franklin County Georgia on or about the first days of August A. D. 1813. for the term of Six Months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of Six Months and was honorably discharged at Milledgeville Ga (she thinks) on the 9th (or thereabouts) day of March A. D 1814 She further states that she was married to the said Geoge M Lanier in Clarke County Georgia on the first day of Febrary A. D. 1816 by Milner Echols a Justice of the Inferior Court and that her name before her said marriage was Polly Langford that her husband died at Clarke County Georgia on the twenty second day of July A. D. 1852 and that she is a widow by the date of executing this her declaration, and having obtained a Bounty Land warrant under act of September 28th 1850 for Eighty acres, No. --- which she has legally transferred and disposed of , and not within her power to return, she refers to said declaration for evidence of her husband's service (the record of her marriage cannot be found) She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which she may be entitled under act approved March 3d, 1855. She also declares that she has never received nor applied for Bounty Land under this or any other act of Congress, except as above stated (her husband's having received eighty acres as above) Polly her mark Lanier Sworn to and before me the day and year above written; and I certify that I believe the claimant to be the identical person she represents herself to be, and that I have no interets in said claim. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Isaac S. Vincint and John Calvin Johnson residents of the State of Georgia and County of Clarke who being duly sworn according to law, declare that they are personally and well acquainted with Mrs. Polly Lanier who saw her sign her name (or made her mark) to the foregoing declaration, that they know her to be the identical person therein represented, and that she is now a widow; and they swear they are disinterested witnesses. They further state under oath that thye knew George M Lanier & Polly his wife as cohabiting together for many years and up to the time of his death in July last as husband & wife and that it is a matter of public notoriety that they sustained that relation to each other -- Sworn to & Subscribed to for -- above date. Page 10 State of Georgia County of Clarke I, John Calvin Johnson Clerk of the Superior Court, in and for the County and State above mentioned, do hereby cerify, that Thomas Simonton whose genuine signature appears to the foregoing declaration and affadavit, is, and was at the time of signing the same, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid, duly commissioned and sworn; that all his officail acts as such are entitled in full faith and credit; and that the aforesiad Superior Court, is a Court of Record, having general jurisdiction. B. -- All the blank spaces in this form must be carefully filled up in accordance with the instructions on the back hereof: and from the best information possessed, or obtainable, by the applicant State of Georgia County of Clarke On this 20th day of July, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight, personally appeared before me, a clerk Superior Court, the same being a court of record within and for the county and Sate aforesiad, (1) Mary Lanier aged 77 years, a resident of Chatooga Co., in the State of Georgia, who being duly sworn to law, declares that she is the widow of (2) George M Lanier deceased, who was rthe identical (3) George M Lanier, who served under the name of (4) George M Lanier as a (5) --- in the company commanded by Captain Cleveland, in the Regiment of Volunteers commanded by Genrl Floyd, in the war of 1812; that her said husband (6) volunteered in Franklin Co. Ga on or about the not remembered day of not remembered, A. D. for the term of Six mos, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of (7) not remember, and whose services terminated, by reason of (8) an honorable discharge, at do not know, on the day of -- A. D. --- She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: about 22 years of ages' a scoolteacher born in Virginia about 6 feet high eyes & hair dark She further states that she was married to the said George M Lanier, at the city (or town) of ---, in the county of Clark, and in the State of Georgia, on the 1st day of February, A. D. 1816 by one (10) Miller Echols, who was a (11) Judge Inferior Court; and that her name before her said marriage was Mary Langford; and she further states that (12) neither her said Husband nor her self had ever been married before and that her said husband (13) George M Lanier, died in Clark Co, in the State of Georgia, on the 22nd day of July, A. D. 1854, and that she has not again married; and she further declares that the following have been the places --- herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: (14) moved from Clark to Munroe Co in 1825 & remained five years & moved back to Clark & remained there untill his death. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the pension to which she may be entitled under Sections 4736 to 4750 (inclusive,) Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9th, 1878, and hereby appoints ---, of --- her true and lawful attorney to proscecute her claim; and she further declares that she has heretofore made an application for (15) bounty land and was informed that a land warrant had been issued & sent to her said husband and that her residence is No. --- street, city (or town) of---- county of Chattooga, State of Georgia, and that her post office address is Trion Factory Chattooga Co Ga Mary her X mark Lanier Attest: E. L. Close W. K. Potter Also personally appeared E. L. Close, aged 47 years, residing at No. Trion. Factory Street, in ---, and W R Potter, aged 54 years, residing at No.----- street in ----, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworen, say that they have know the said Mary Lanier for 38 years and for 39 years, respectively; that they were present and saw her sign her name (or make her mark) to the forgoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaitance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they further say that they are able to identify her as a person who was the wife of the identical (16) George M Lanier who rendered the service alleged in the above application (in the company of Captain Cleveland in the regiment of ----, in the war of 1812) by the following named facts and circumstances, viz: that we lived in their immediate neighborhood for 10 and 20 years respectively and know that they lived togther as man and wife up to the time of his death and that they have no interest in the proscecution of this claim.
