Waterways of Chattahoochee County

Based on "old maps" done by Carl Vinson Institute of Government, University of Georgia

Chattahoochee County was created on Feb. 13, 1854 by an act of the General Assembly (Ga. Laws 1853-54, p. 288). Created from Muscogee and Marion counties so be sure to visit those county pages for information prior to 1854.

BALD HILL One of three post offices in 1854. (Halloca and Shell Creek) Appears on 1863 map. Land District 33 (south central section of county)

BUSSEY'S STORE Appears on 1915 map - north west on Upatoi Creek

CHRISTOPHER Appears on 1915 map - central. Looks like a station on the Railroad

COTTAGE MILLS Appears on 1865 map. west central south of Woolfolk on road to Jamestown

CUSSETA Village called Sand Town was on this location. Name changed to Cusseta after powerful Indian Tribe, Cussetahs. McIntosh for Chief William McIntosh who was friendly to the Whites had also been considered. Appears on 1855 map

EELBECK Appears on 1910 map. Northeast

HALLOCA One of three post offices in 1854. (Halloca and Shell Creek) Appears on 1855 map

HARP Appears on 1915 map - south central

HURLEY Appears on 1915 map - central

IDA Appears on 1915 map - central. Looks like a station on the Railroad

JAMESTOWN Appears on 1863 map. Land District 7 (south west section of county) on Upatoi Creek

MANTA Appears on 1915 map - Southeast of Cusseta

MULVILLE Appears on 1883 map - northeast at junction of Pine Nut Creek and Upatoi Creek

OCHILLE Appears on 1904 map - north central north of Cusseta

OSWECHEE Appears on 1883 map - northwest probably on Oswechee Creek

PARKMAN Appears on 1915 map - north west

PINE NUT SPRING Appears on 1864 map. North east corner

PSALMONDS Appears on 1895 map - north central on road from Cusseta to Columbus

SANDTOWN Village in 1854. Post Offices at that time: Bald Hill, Halloca, and Shell Creek. This village given name of Cusseta in 1854, made County Seat.

SHACK Appears on 1904 map - north west

SHELL CREEK P.O. One of three post offices in 1854. (Halloca and Bald Hill) Appears on 1864 map - southwest

THAD Appears on 1883 map - northwest on Upatoi Creek

UNO Appears on 1910 map. Northeast

WILLETT Appears on 1904 map - north west

WOOLFOLK Appears on 1863 map. Land District 7 (south west section of county) on Upatoi Creek
