Butts Volunteers Meeting

Jackson, April 21, 1877

At a meeting of the surviving members of the Butts Volunteers, J. C. Varner, was requested to act as s chairman, and L. D. Watson secretary.

G. B. Elder moved that the picnic propose by the Butts Volunteers to come off in May, be postponed until Wednesday, the 1st day of August.

R. V. Smith moved that the picnic be held at Indian Spring.

Wiley Goodman moved that the Butts Volunteers meet in Jackson on Saturday, the 7th day of July, to make arrangements for the picnic, and all volunteer companies, Militia, and citizens of the county are requested to meet with us and make arrangements to have a basket picnic.

T. L. William moved that those proceeding be published in the Argus.

G. B. Elder moved that this meeting adjourn to meet on the 7th day of July.

I accept with pleasure your invitation, and if no accident or demand of official duty prevents, will certainly be present to participate both in your festivities and in the melancholy pleasure of recalling and recounting the stirring events which marked the career of our brother�s in arms.
