Land Deed and Cemetery Record on Blissit Family History

Special Thanks to the Butts County Genealogical Society for finding this information and allowing me to reproduce it for AGHP. The work they have performed in Butts County is outstanding.

Elisha Blissit/Blessit/Blessett came to Butts County from South Carolina and settled in the vicinity of hwy. 16 & High Falls Road on 202 1/2 acres. Elisha Blisset purchased this land from Allen B. Powell of McIntosh County on 24 Aug 1822. This was part of the land drawn by Joseph J. Winn in the Land Lottery.
Elisha Blissit died in 1825 and this property was transferred to his wife, Nancy Woodrow Blissit and children and to the guardians of his minor children.
In a land transaction dated 20 July 1846, Nancy Blissit sold to Butts County for the sum of $25.00 a parcel of eight rods square in the southern half of lot number 80, containing a graveyard.
On Sept. 3 1851, Nancy Blissit sold her remaining portion of land to her son, Reason Blissit. The graveyard is also mentioned in this record.
In later years this was the home place of the Patrick family.  Mr. J. H. Patrick sold this property to his son, Taylor Patrick.
The exact location of the cemetery is unknown. The people below are thought to be buried there.
01- BLISSIT, ELISHA
Born in South Carolina
1775-78 - abt. 1825

02- BLISSIT, Betsey
Daughter of Elisha & Nancy Blissit
Died 1825

Directions: From the Courthhouse, take Hwy 16 West 4.1 miles to the corner of Hwy 16 and High Falls Road. The Cemetery was supposed to be located northeast of the England Chapel Church from Barnes Road.
Henry M. Blissit, a descendant, has searched this area for evidence of this Cemetery but to no avail. He presumes that it was probably plowed under since the location is unknown.
