WALKER, Charles L. - 2d Sergeant August 26, 1861. elected Jr. 2d Lieutenant September 25, 1862; 2d Lieutenant Dec. 13, 1862. Wounded in abdomen and captured at Gettysburg, Pa. July 3, 1863. Died of wounds July 6, or September 3, 1863.

 

WILKINSON, James - Private, enlisted on April 4, 1962 at Waynesville, Georgia, and sworn in by Captain Donald J. McDonald and Capt Daniel Ezekiel Knowles, Company D (old D), which was later changed to Company "F", 26th Georgia Regiment.  Old family letters indicate that Private Wilkinson had experienced various illnesses while in service, none life threatening.  On May 4th and 15th, 1862 he wrote home from Camp Smith, Chatham Co., Georgia that he was not well. On May 25th, 1862, he wrote that his Company was leaving Savannah for Charleston and then on to Richmond, Va.  On July 11, 1862, he wrote that his Company had left  for Richmond and that he was left behind at Charleston with measles.  From Charleston he was sent  to Columbia, S.C. where he spent 15 days in the hospital.  He finally caught up with his Regiment again at Richmond, under Capt D. E. Knoles, which had been in some big fights already.   On 12 Feb. 1862, a letters was received by Sarah Miriam Lewis (Wilkinson from James Jackson Wilkinson saying, later indicate that subject, "James" had died of Variola (smallpox) on 26 January 1863, being in the Confederate a little over eight months.  One story is, "Subject "James"  was taken out of his senses and got  in the night and went outside and was found the next morning dead in the snow about a half mile from the hospital." WILKINSON, James Jackson - Private Feb. 27, 1862. Transferred to Company "K", Nov. 10, 1862. Admitted to General Hospital #9, at Richmond, Va. June 13, 1863. Slightly wounded at 2d Manassas (History of Ware County). Sent to Chimborazo Hospital #2 June 14, 1863. No later record. Born in Georgia Jan. 10, 1842.

 

WILKINSON, Martin - Private Aug. 26, 1861. Killed at Sharpsburg, Md. Sept. 17, 1862.
