Nahunta, Ga., February 22, 1940. A powerful factor in Eighth District basketball circles during the season which draws to a close this week-ends tournament at Valdosta and Hazlehurst, has been the Nahunta Wildcats, a furiously fighting pack of ball players who performed through sheer love of he game. The Wildcats have run up scores ranging from 17 to 63 points totaling 830 points for an average of better than 37 points per game. The opposition has scored 416 points for an average of less an 19 points per game.
Highlights of the season;s play was a "revenge" victory over the previously undefeated Wacona Hornets on the Wacona floor a couple of weeks ago, Coach Paris stopped a perfect 23-game winning streak by the Waconans. Their only loss of the season was a 1-point verdict to Wacona earlier in the season.
Another bright spot in the Nahunta schedule was a pair of wins over last year's championship Glynn Academy team of Brunswick. Member of the squad who have seen most of the service include Ronald Hendrix, Julius Lynn, Elmer Strickland, Elton Strickland, T. P. Herrin, Clarence Highsmith, Conward Godwin, Harry Raulerson, Junior Britt and Clifton Roberson. The Nahunta girls, coached by Miss. Edith Sessions, also won a large percentage of their games throughout the season, piling up top heavy scores. They are, Eureta Herrin, Lorraine Hendrix, Alice Braddock, Lizzie Mae Highsmith, Dorothy Robinson, Hazel Purdom, Betty Jo Raulerson, Florence Strickland, Juanita Knox, Lottie Roberson, Martha Chapman, and Vera Drury.
