Leonard Julian Tanner (L.J.), age 87, of Alma passed
away late Friday, February 10, 2006 in the Twin Oaks
Nursing Home after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late
Leonard Tanner and Mary Elizabeth Teston Tanner and
preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Julian was a member of Campground United Methodist
Church and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Kizzie Tanner of Alma; one
son, Jack Tanner and wife, Laura of Alma; one
daughter, Ann Gillis and husband Conway of Waycross;
five grandchildren, Georgia Ann Rodriguez and husband,
Andy of Lavonia, GA, Melody Lynn Boatright of Alma,
James Conway Gillis, Jr. and wife, Loretta of
Waycross, Anna Witte and husband, Stephen of Atlanta
and Tot Jefferson Gillis of Jacksonville, FL; 11 great
grandchildren and a special care giver, Kacie
Disharoon.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 12, 2006
at 2 p.m. at Campground Methodist Church with Rev.
James Boyd officiating. Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Roy Hayes, Bucky Hayes, Pat
Tanner, Wallace Cole, Jerry Mims and Walter Peacock.
All those in attendance were considered honorary
escorts.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
