Kitty Johnson Looking for information on William Smith. The information I have is that he moved to the part of Lumpkin Co. that later became Dawson Co. by 1840. His first wife was Sarah Beverly Emerson and they had 14 kids, one of which was Manson, who married Sarah Waters. Would love to have any information on this family that corroborates/documents/expands the above information. Have descendancy of Manson and Sarah to share. Thank you. |

I am looking for any information on a Marcus A. Stone from Dawson County. He married an Eliza Lee also from Dawson County in 1866. Eliza was born Dec 6, 1843 and Marcus was born in Jan of 1844. He died in Dawson County around May 1, 1902.Below is all the information I have on him and would appreciate knowing parents, siblings, anything. Marcus A. Stone was born Jan 1844 (from his application for allowance to the act of Oct 24th, 1887) and I suspect died in Dawson County Ga around May 1, 1902. I know for sure he was there March 5th, 1900 and would have been 56 at that point. The Dawson County Georgia document says"he was born on the -- -- th day of Jan 1844" and "is a bona fide citizen and a resident of Georgia, and has been continuously since the -- -- day of January 1844. That he enlisted in the military service of the confederate States (or the State of Georgia) during the war between the states and served as a private in the Company "I" of 52nd Regiment of Georgia Volunteers Bartons Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, and in line of duty in the State of Tennessee, on the -- -- day of December 1862 he was disabled or wounded as follows: " the statement from M. A. Stone While in line of duty at Knoxville, Tennessee, I took measles and was sent to hospital, where I staid some three or four weeks after which I rejoined my command and while in line of duty soon after returning from hospital I was exposed to severe cold and damp weather which caused a relapse of measles, and was sent to camp hospital where I remained for some weeks afterwards rejoining my command, but ever after was continually troubled with cough and weakness from said relapse of measles, said disease has greatly bothered me, rendering me unable to do manual labor, said disease continues to grow worse all the time. then it says' Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the act approved Oct 24th, 1887, and the Acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year thereunder ending Oct 26, 1896.
Subscribed and sworn to before me, this the 5th day of March 1900.
There was a note folded up in this that said Marcus A. Stone served in 52nd
regiment Co and was discharged about May 5, 1865. He died May 1st, 1902. |
