POWELL,Francis, Sr.
I am looking for a Francis Powell Sr. born in Orange Co. Virginia 1750, married a Sarah ?, fought in the Rev. War, and went to Elbert Co. about 1790, lived and died there about 1839. There are several Deeds in the Frank Owen Powell Book, Title: William Powell and Sarah Riddle & Associated Families, and also in the Elbert County Deed Book or Books that are in the library or at the Court house. I need a Will with children listed, or a deed with children listed, or any other type of record. Y-DNA proves that this Francis Powell Sr. is in the T Haplogroup, and is a Uncle to William Riddle Powell that married Sarah Lawrence, and had 15 children in Elbert Co. Ga.

He is not to be mixed up with the Francis Powell from Amherst Co. Virginia, This one was born in Amherst Co. Va. about 1756, and might have died around 1840, he married a Nancy Whitehead. The jury is still out if he is related to my Francis Powell or not, because DNA has not been taken for this line yet.

I will be willing to share info I have about the Powells of Elbert Co. Ga. and how they are related to my line of Powells.

Thanks,

Pat Powell Springer 03-24-2013

RAINS, Ignatius
Ignatius Rains is in the Wilkes Co., GA tax lists by 1791. Later, when Elbert Co. is formed from Wilkes a Dabney Rains is located in Elbert Co, and Ignatius is now in Oglethorpe (Ignatius' farm was located on the river where the 3 counties come together). Dabney isn't recorded (as far as I've researched) in any county until 1813 when he later sells a piece of land in 1820 to Gabriel Booth. Click here for more information.
