This is the last Will and Testament of me Joseph GIGGER of Dorchester in the County of Dorset Grocer made and published this sixteenth day of August in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand seven hundred and Eighteen

Impris: I commend my Soul to God its Author And my body to the Earth

Item: I charge all my Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whereof I am seized of any Estate or Inheritance with the Payment of the yearly Sume of ffifteen pounds in lawfull money unto my Daughter Joan during the terme of her natural Life clear of all Deductions by Quarterly Payment and in Equal Proportions the first payment to be made at the end of three Kallendar Months next after my Death
    And I give to my said Daughter full power to Distrain for the same and all arrears thereof on the premises or any part thereof together with the Costs of such Distress and the Prosecution thereof
    And in case my said Daughter shall happen to dye during the Nonage of my Son George and Daughter Elizabeth or either of them Then I Charge All my said Lands with the Payment of the Sum of Thirty Pounds unto each of them the said George and Elizabeth or unto such of them as shall be living and under Age at the time of the Death of my said Daughter Joan
    All which said Lands and Hereditaments thus Charged I Will shall descend unto my eldest Son Joseph and his Heirs To whom I give my Leasehold Estate in the Parish of Corfe Castle
All other my Personal Estate I give unto my Son George and Daughter Elizabeth whome I make joint Executors of this my Will
    But during their Minority I Wil that my Brother John Gigger and my Kinsman Joseph Caldecott be Executors of this my Will in Trust for the said George and Elizabeth To whome I devise the Guardianship of all my Children and their Effects untill they respectively attain the Age of One and Twenty years
    And if either of my said Children George and Elizabeth shall dye under Age and unmarried I Will that the estate and Interest of the deceased shall go to the Survivor
Item: I Will that the said John Gigger and Joseph Caldecott or the Survivor of them have Liberty out of the Income of my eldest Son’s Estate to add one or more Lives in the Leasehold Estate at Corfe Castle for the benefit of my said eldest Son Also I Will that out of such Income they imploy what they or the Survivor of them shall think as well in his maintenance and Education as in his Advancement and preferment in the World And that what belongs to my said Children be employed at Interest or otherwise for their benefitt at the Discretion of my said Trustees for any Loss whereby I Will that my said Trustees be in no wise answerable

Genealogical Notes:-

(1) Joseph GIGGER (1681-1718) was the second son of Joseph Gigger (Senior) by his wife Joan Devenish of Charminster . His father was buried at All Saints Church in Dorchester on 14th June 1685 and was joined by his mother Joan Gigger nee Devenish on 15th Oct 1700. His father left him £100 in his will and an equal share in his estate with his elder brother George and younger brother John.

(2) Joseph had 3 siblings all baptised at All Saints Church :- George 28th Aug 1680; Joseph 8th Dec 1681; John bap 29th June 1683 who died an infant and was buried there on 31 Dec 1683 and John bap 6th Jan 1684/5

(3) Joseph married Elizabeth Chaldecut of Hilton on June 25th 1704 at Blandford St Mary ; They had their eldest son Joseph Gigger baptised at Hilton on 25th Nov 1704, 2nd child Joan at All Saints bap 29th Sep 1707; 3rd child George bap AS 14th July 1710 and Elizabeth bap AS 23rd Feb 1715/6
