Waters Family Cemetery

The Waters Family Cemetery is in the Gonzalez community north of Roberts Road on CR95A. There is little evidence that it ever existed except for Waters family members who remember visiting it.

On December 6, 1986, Evan Strohl with other members of the West Florida Genealogical Society (WFGS) attempted to survey the cemetery and reported the following:

To look for this cemetery would be futile - - there is no evidence of a cemetery above ground. However, the family members, who are avid researchers, can see the “hanging tree” still standing over the site, just north of Roberts Road on CR 95A. There is currently a family effort to have the site recognized with a marker and preserved from future development.

Since there are no markers available, the following information has come from Mr. James M. Waters, author of his family book, From Where the Waters Flow, printed in October 1985.

1. John WATERS, b. 1793, d. Aug. 1863 (hanged). Veteran of War of 1812

2. Sarah Eugenia WATERS, b. 1797 in North Carolina d. abt. 1865 in Florida (probably buried here)

3. William WATERS, b. 31 October 1814 in South Carolina, d. 17 May 1858.
