According to a Church Directory published in 1976, the church was built as a non-denominational church in 1910. On June 4, 1911, a group formally organized the church, and called it Poplar Dell Baptist Church. It was so named because of the poplar trees in a branch head nearby. The cemetery, located adjacent to the church building, apparently had a few graves for some time, but the church waited until 1966 to divide the property into lots. It was agreed then to allow each church family to have a plot at no charge, while persons outside the church would be required to pay a fee.

The cemetery was surveyed and compiled in October 1998 by Mr. & Mrs Jerry Simmons. Earliest burial is 1963.
