Charles S. Miley

1891-1981

Charles S. Miley moved to Fort Pierce in 1914 from Mississippi.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War I.  After the war he studied for a time at the Sorbonne, in Paris.  Miley returned to his job at the Fort Pierce News Tribune following these studies.  In 1925 he became the paper's city editor.  Charles wrote a weekly column during the late 70's called "Miley's Memos".  These "memos" relate the early history of St. Lucie County.  He was involved in bringing a community college to our county and served on the board of trustees of Indian River Community College.  IRCC's learning resource center on the main campus is named in his honor.
