  • 1880/1881 Census at Family Search -search the United State 1880 census or the 1881 British Isles or Canadian census.
  • American History - links to web sites about American History that may be helpful in understanding family migration and lifestyle during various time in history
  • American Revolutionary War Soldiers - A web site to connect American Revolutionary War Soldiers and their descendants. This web site is also developing a listing of the French American War Soldiers and their descendants. Adding your Revolutionary War ancestors could very well lead to new cousins and new information.
  • Ancestors - the web site for the TV show "Ancestors" that has been presented on PBS
  • Beginners Guide, Hints & Tips - from Cyndi's List, numerous topics for getting started with genealogy research, mistakes to avoid, and news groups that may be helpful
  • British Isles Maps - wonderful maps of England and Wales around 1840, Scotland around 1847, and Oxfordshire around 1841. Other locations available with more being added. Once the selected map has loaded, it can be enlarged to see more small village locations
  • Castle Garden - Ten million immigrants came to New York through Castle Garden from 1830 to 1892 before Ellis Island opened. There is information at this site about the people and ships who came through here.
  • Cousin Connect - a website designed to post queries. Searches can be by surname, county, state, and country. To post a query requires registering which includes protection from getting spam and registered e-mail addresses are not sold or result in receiving spam.
  • Eastmans Online Genealogy Newsletter - a very popular genealogy news site prepared daily by Dick Eastman. Search the discussion boards and the past newsletters for loads of information.
  • EBay - items at auction can be searched effectively by surname, town, and county. (Using"genealogy" as a criteria in the "search for" area will yield over 1000's of items)
  • Ellis Island - opened in 1892 until 1924, most immigrants, passengers, and crew members who entered the Port of New York will have information in the Ellis Island records
  • Ellis Island - One Step Search - this site may provide better results from searching, especially when dealing with spelling variations or errors
  • Find A Grave - Search millions of names and you may find where a person is buried. Be sure to use the married name for women. Also, you can add known information about ancestors and find cousins interested in genealogy or add a nice internet memorial for anyone you would like
  • Florida Memory - a Florida history site that has over 100,000 photographs and other scanned images, timelines, Confederate pensions, land grants, and highlights of Florida history are presented by the Florida Archives
  • Florida State Genealogical Society - find out what is happening at Florida genealogy societies
  • Genealogy Today - genealogy news, research tips, and numerous helpful articles and research links
  • Grave Matters - this is a collection of photographs and historical information of colonial cemeteries and gravestones of New England in southern Maine, south New Hampshire and northeast Massachusetts. Please help by contributing photographs of gravestones you have collected from this area.

  • Linkpendium - search based on surname, county, or state, the resulting page will be a reference point to "start digging", the site is updated frequently with new links to reference, they are all genealogy related
  • Making of America-Cornell and Making of America-Michigan - both of these "Making of America" sites are a digital library of books and journals published between 1800 and 1925. The search should be based on a subject such as surname, town, county
  • National Archives of Canada - These archives will help you find your Canadian roots and learn more about the country of Canada.
  • National Archives of the United States - The link for " Genealogists/Family Historians" might be a useful starting point for this very large site.
  • Newspaper Links - This site is through the Internet Public Library and provides links to many (but not all) newspapers in the United States.
  • Podcasts - Listed below are websites that offer spoken word talks on various genealogical issues. Many of these sites can be subscribed to, so that when a new podcast is posted you will receive it. Most of the podcasts used MP3-format for their offerings. All of these podcasts are offered to the public free of charge.
      Genealogy Guys - Timely news, discussions and tips on many genealogical topics.
  • Scotland - John Robertson, from Scotland, who was a guest speaker maintains this great site for Scotland research
  • US Civil War Center - links to battlefields, cemeteries, events, and parks. The Center's mission is to promote the study of the Civil War and to index and make available all appropriate private and public collections regarding the Civil War.
  • World War II Remembrance - very nice site to include a remembrance for anyone who served in World War II
