James Paterson, M.D., Army Surgeon (b.1789, Netherfield, Strathaven; d.1866, Edinburgh)

The genealogy of James Paterson, M.D.(1789-1866), an army surgeon serving in the Iberian Penninsular, South Asia and Ireland and retiring to Edinburgh. His eldest son James (1808?-1881), was a physician and professor of midwifery at Anderson's University, Glasgow. His youngest son Martin (1848-1933) was an army officer and Colonel in the 1st Battalion of the Hertfordshire Regiment.
