GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF OKALOOSA COUNTY
A Journal of NORTHWEST FLORIDA

The Genealogical Society of Okaloosa County publishes our Journal once yearly. Volunteers conduct research in Northwest Florida for information to be published in the Journal with emphasis on material of limited availability. Members provide articles and other material from sources in areas in which they are searching.

The 2018 Journal was published and distributed in September 2018, and its theme is "Why Did I Come Here?" We all wonder, "WHY did the family move to Ohio, Oklahoma, or Florida?" What could have made them leave a family farm or business and walk, ride, or float to a foreign territory or country or even a new state? You may have a guess, but wouldn't it be great if you found the story in your ancestor's own words? Your grandkids, great grandkids or even 6th cousin 3 times removed will wonder why you came to Northwest Florida the same way you wonder about your ancestors. We posed the following question to our members: Why did YOU or your family come to Northwest Florida? For those who contributed, we are leaving our descendants a breadcrumb in this issue of the Journal.

The theme of the 2017 issue was Education, and it traced the development of schools in Okaloosa County. The theme of the 2016 issue was the Vietnam War, and the 2015 issue was dedicated to the centennial of Okaloosa County. Previous recent Journals have had articles dealing with World War I through the Great Depression, through World War II, into the Korean Conflict and the beginning of the Cold War.

Eight previous Journals are available in the members-only section of this website, however, the Table of Contents for those issues can be viewed from the links below.
