Genealogy Journal
A Quarterly Publication
|
The primary reason for publishing the MCGS Genealogy Journal on the MCGS website is to reduce the number of copies of the Journal that are printed and mailed out to the MCGS membership, other societies, and other interested individuals. Publishing our Journal electronically will save MCGS money! MCGS members (and those societies and/or other individuals on our mailing list) will be notified via email when each issue has been uploaded and ready for viewing. Thus, it is imperative that each member who chooses this alternate method of receiving their Journal issues will need to provide the Journal Editor with a current email address and advise him/her of any changes ASAP.
In addition to saving MCGS printing costs and postal fees, some other reasons for publishing the MCGS Genealogy Journal electronically will be to provide:
It is our "hope/dream" to someday provide additional electronic access to previous issues (before Sep 2008) of the MCGS Genealogy Journal; one more way MCGS is hoping to provide access to MCGS records and/or publications to our members and the general public ... free of charge. Everything must have a birth; this is one of many attempts by MCGS to provide the pertinent genealogical information, not only for it's members, but the genealogical public. It is our hope to expand and enhance our MCGS website by publishing more documents, records, and/or databases online for the benefit of our members and the public.
If you would like to accept this alternate method to receive the MCGS Genealogy Journal in the new electronic format, please email Walt Bruetsch, Interim Editor, [email protected]. Please be sure to provide in the body of the email the email address you wish us to use for you (HINT: do not rely on just your email address in the sender's section; let us know explicitly what email address you wish us to use for you). By utilizing this alternate method of receiving your MCGS Genealogy Journal, you will be contributing to the reduction of MCGS expenditures, thereby releasing funds that can (and will) be used elsewhere for the betterment of MCGS. It is the MCGS' Board of Directors hope that this alternate method will, not only provide a service to its members and the general public, but also assist MCGS in reducing the ever-increasing printing and postal fees we are now experiencing.
NOTE: Please be aware that if you elect to receive the MCGS Journal solely via electronic publishing, you will not receive a paper copy either in person or by mail.
Most computer owners/users have elected to download Adobe Acrobat's Reader to view .pdf files and/or Microsoft's (MS) Viewer to view MS Word files. We are providing our MCGS Genealogy Journal in both formats. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat and/or MS Word on your computer, you will need to download the FREE read-only software for each and/or whichever format you choose. Here is how to download both the MS Word Viewer and the Adobe Acrobat Reader:
1. Microsoft (MS) Word Viewer:
2. Adobe Acrobat Reader:
NOTE: Because all of the above-mentioned downloads may take considerably longer if you have just a telephone line for Internet service, you may want to utilize a portable USB drive ("travel" drive; "flash" drive; "thumb" drive, etc.), and do your downloads at a local library, where the download processes will go much faster. Save the downloads to your portable drive and transfer them to your home and/or laptop computer.
