Gainer Cemetery, Jackson Co FL

Gainer Cemetery, Jackson Co FL
Information from Cindy Sloan.

This cemetery lies in the middle of a field at the intersection of highway 167 and Dipper Road (approximately 6 miles south on highway 167 from highway 276). It is located in Section 11, Township 3N, Range 11W in Jackson County, Florida.

From highway 167, turn left onto Dipper Road (currently a dirt road.) The cemetery lies almost immediately on the right (south) side of Dipper Road and is indicated by a small clump of trees in a large, plowed field. Closer examination shows remains of an old fence around the area.

There is at least one identifiable grave, and possibly two or three more graves at this site. According to WPA survey1, there are two Civil War Veterans buried here:

GAINER, James W., born 1830, died 1888. He was a Private in Company H of the 6th Florida Infantry.

GAINER, Thomas H., birth date unknown, died 1885. He was a Private in Company K of the 6th Florida Infantry.

Unfortunately, this cemetery does not appear in any other surveys so it is nearly impossible to determine the identity of other graves (as indicated by remnants of other slabs/headstones).
