GSS Special Find A Grave Event or "Come and Walk a Cemetery with us!" - 2015

A wonderful experience and nice day was had by 16 of our GSS Members and 1 Volunteer at our "FindAGrave" or "Walk a Cemetery" Day" on  Feb 21!
We took pictures and notes of headstones and memorials. These were uploaded to findagrave.com. Within hours of uploading data, our members were already receiving acknowledgements from friends or relatives of the deceased. This event was a very rewarding experience. Many of us would like to do it again!
We would like to extend special appreciations to Theresa, manager of Sarasota Memorial Park, for her assistance and to the owners of Casa Italia for their gracious hospitality and delicious lunch!

I would like to extend a special thank you for the invaluable assistance with this event to Kate Prugh, Tom Sparrow, Regina Negryz, Steve Fields, and Nancy Johnson. What a great team!  Marilyn Wethington

Sarasota County Cemetery Records Online!!!!              Updated in 2014!

Cemeteries of Sarasota County Florida - A Record of Births, Deaths, and Burials

In 1992, members of the Genealogical Society of Sarasota, Inc completed a survey of all of the Sarasota County cemeteries, and compiled a listing that was published in a book titled Cemeteries of Sarasota County Florida - A Record of Births, Deaths and Burials. This book has been out of print for several years. In 2007, several members of GSS prepared the data to add it to our GSS website. GSS is pleased to be able to share the data with you here via the internet.

This Book contains cemetery records from Sarasota County, Florida. The data is organized into files based on the Cemetery Name and Alphabetically by Surname. Adobe Reader is used to view and search the contents. Click here or click on the "Cemetery Files" button to the left to view the Cemetery Book Page.
