Notes for Sarah Lunnde Cole:
Sarah Lunnde Cole was the daughter of Isaac Newton Cole and Elizabeth Mulligan Cole who married
11 Aug 1842 in Switzerland County, Indiana. Elizabeth died 11 Oct 1844 at the age of 19 when Sarah
was almost ten months old. Isaac Cole then married Clarinda Kirby in September, 1845. By the time of,
or perhaps before, the 1850 census, Sarah L. Cole, age 5, was living in the household of her grandparents,
John and Sarah Cole. Sarah Cole died in early 1855 and by the end of that year, John Cole had another wife.
In the 1860 census, John Cole's household shows no Sarah L. Cole, but she does appear in the household of her
aunt, Nancy Ludlow Cole who had married Samuel W. Rochat in 1852.
Sarah Lunnde Cole first married DeWitt Clinton Mitchell on 1 Oct 1860. Their daughter, Nancy Belle Mitchell
was born in 1862 and DeWitt Clinton Mitchell died about 1864 in the Civil War. Sarah Lunnde Cole Mitchell
then married Alexander Bettens Rochat about 1866. DeWitt Clinton Mitchell was the brother of Mariah Mitchell
who married James N. Rochat. James and Alexander Rochat were brothers of Samuel W. Rochat, in whose home
Sarah Lunnde Cole grew up.
