Minutes of April 6, 2009

Attendance: Bettie Mease, Buddy Gross, Terri Ohr, Lorelei Keif, Chuck McPherson, Bob Delack, John Tsacrios, Marvin Moore, Joan Turner, Joe Turner, Bob Valentine, Shirley Galatas, Kay Holley, Dean Robinson, Dave Allbritton, Pat Moore, Bill Justice, Jay Rhodes, and Bill Wallace.

Meeting called to order at 7:35.

Minutes approved of the March 2, 2009 with corrections.

Treasurer’s report. Balance as of 04-06-09, $13,758.55. Donation of $50 from Bill Wallace for a presentation he gave for Honeywell Retirees.

MEMBERSHIP –Bettie Mease – Two new members.

PROGRAM –Jay Rhodes –Jay will be able to be at the beginning of the May Fish Fry, but will need to leave early. He will be contacting other members for help.

PUBLIC RELATIONS –Dean Robinson – Dean is asking for any new information to place in the news articles that he prepares. Will add information about the May Fish Fry and the raffle of the quilt.

MUSEUM-Buddy Gross –More damage to the rails and another broken window. Bill Wallace and Buddy Gross have been working at keeping up with the repairs.

ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS – Joan Turner –Bill Wallace has been contacted about possible artifacts from North Ward School being donated to the Historical Society. A group is planning for a North Ward alumni get together. South Ward Elementary will be open for viewing on 4/23 at 3:00 and then a meeting afterwards to discuss possible future use of the building. Members of the Clearwater Historical Society, the Pinellas County Historical Commission, Downtown Development Board, Clearwater Downtown Partnership and the Harbor Oaks Association have formed a task force.

The Dunedin Marina Sailing Club has donated a pram to the Clearwater Historical Society. Bill Wallace is storing it for now, for a future display.

PRESERVATION – Mike Sanders –No report

HISTORICAL RESEARCH – Pat Moore – No report

FUND RAISING – Helen Wilcox/Chuck McPherson – Bill Wallace will run the chance drawing at the fish fry for the quilt provided to us by the Class of 1953.

HOMESTEAD – Lorelei Keif/Anne Epling –Bob Delack is contacting members to fill the Sat hours at The Plumb House through May. Next open house schedule will be changed. It has been suggested that having the house opened monthly with a special program each month would attract more visitors than we are currently having. We need a volunteer to chair this program and committee members to arrange the monthly program. No volunteer as of this meeting.

Dave Allbritton will check into advertising The Plumb House Historical Museum on WTAN.

OTHER:

Dave Allbritton has been searching for options that we might have for the Historical Society’s website name. Will bring in list to June meeting.

Buddy Gross found that Catherine Barber is the current benefactor of the Tilley Trust Fund. When she passes, the remainder of the Trust will be turned over to the Historical Society.

NEW BUSINESS

Chuck McPherson spoke with the organizer of the Pinellas County History Fair. Chuck would like to up our prize amount to $100 for a specific project on Pinellas County history at next year’s fair. A motion was made by Chuck for a $100 prize to be offered. Motion was second by Bob Delack. Motion carried by Board Members.

Motion to adjourn was made by Dean Robinson, second by Pat Moore. Meeting adjourned at 8:45.
