CLEARWATER HISTORICAL SOCIETY

April 7, 2008

Attendance: Bettie Mease, Joan Turner, John Tsacrios, Marvin Moore, Joe Turner, Chuck McPherson, Buddy Gross, Terri Ohr, Lorelei Keif, Bill Justice, Pat Moore, Helen Wilcox, Anne Epling, Jay Rhodes, Bob Delack, and visitors, Bill and Holly Gallups.

Meeting called to order at 7:30.

Minutes approved of March 3, 2008 meeting.

Treasurer�s report. Balance as of 4-7-08, $11,727.68

OLD BUSINESS

MEMBERSHIP �Bettie Mease � Dues received in March were $225.00.

PROGRAM �Jay Rhodes � In dire need of volunteers for the Fish Fry. Several of our members will be unable to help this time. . RELATIONS �Dean Robinson �Articles are bringing in more visitors on our Thurs. and Sat open house hours.

MUSEUM-Buddy Gross � John Tsacrios followed through with Progress Energy concerning our outdoor lighting. Repairs should have been completed by now. The power company said that a light could be installed at the end of the driveway. The fee for the light would be approximately $12/mo, with a one time installation fee of $24. A motion was made by Bettie Mease to sign the contract with Progress Energy to have a light installed. Bob Delack made a second to the motion. The motion was carried by unanimous vote. Pat Moore made a motion to create an additional marketing fundraiser at the Fish Fry to fulfill the cost of this contract. Helen Wilcox made a second to the motion. Motion was carried by unanimous vote. Buddy readdressed the need for an air conditioner on the second floor of the Plumb House. The approximate cost we were given several months ago was $6,000. John Tsacrios will search for prices on portable units and other less expensive options. He will contact the Board of Directors so a decision might be made before our June meeting. Will keep Bomber�s exhibit up through May and work on changing that display over the summer.

ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS � Joan Turner �A classmate from the Clearwater High School Reunion for the classes of 48,49, & 50 gave Joan Turner a 1947 Clearwater Sun news article for donation to the Historical Society.

PERSERVATION � Mike Sanders �Mike drafted a letter to Jim Moyles on behalf of the Historical Society in appreciation for his efforts in the preservation of the 1911 Mary Brown House. If anyone else would like to recognize someone for this type of achievement, please get with Mike.

HISTORICAL RESEARCH � Pat Moore � No report

FUND RAISING � Helen Wilcox/Chuck McPherson � No report

HOMESTEAD � Lorelei Keif/Anne Epling � Have Sat open house hours covered through May 3.

NEW BUSINESS

A. Dave Perkins currently at The Oaks, Room 705, Ph. 445-4000. He is improving, but not quite ready to return home.

B. An ACLF would like to have an outing to The Plumb House on Wed, May 28, at noon. Buddy volunteered to be here, but will also ask Bill Wallace or Mike Sanders if they can be on hand to answer questions. The ACLF will be making a donation in appreciation for this special event.

C. Holly Ficht Gallups, a visitor at our meeting, asked if we had any Bomberett memorabilia for our display. She was a Bomberett and will copy and send us what pictures and articles she has.

D. John Tsacrios brought in a �Remembrance� magazine to show the members. Although currently all of the articles seem to be by individuals from the North, he suggested contacting the magazine so that our members could make contributions of articles also. He will get the info from magazine for procedures on how to do that.
