CLEARWATER HISTORICAL SOCIETY

March 7, 2005

Meeting called to order by Bill Wallace at 7:30 P.M.

Members present included, Joan Turner, Shirley Galatas, Dean S. Robinson, Dave Perkins, Laddie Irion, John Tsacrios, Helen Wilcox, Chuck McPherson, Bob Valentine, Bettie Mease, Joe Turner, Bob Delack, Buddy Gross, Mike Sanders, Lorelei Keif, Bill Wallace, and Terri Ohr.

Minutes of February 7, 2005 approved as corrected.

Treasurer's report approved as presented. Bank balance as of March, 2005, is $3,621.60. Bank account has been transferred to Sun Trust. It is basically a non service fee account.

OLD BUSINESS

A. Membership Committee - Bettie Mease -Bill Wallace will update roster for the Historical Society and get copies to Buddy Gross, Joan Turner and Mike Sanders.
B. Program Committee - Jay Rhodes -If anyone has the specifics on class reunions that will be attending the May Fish Fry please let Jay know so he can adjust the fish quantity.
C. Public Relations - Dean Robinson - Dean stated that there was a snafu on one of our monthly publications, but we have received other exceptional coverage with our notices. Dean is open for any suggestions for information that should go in the notices. Dean also suggested that Lorelei prepare a draft for the request of articles for the Plumb House. He would then publish the request with our various media contacts. Dean reported that on the Travel Channel, Clearwater Beach is rated as the 2nd best city beach in the world. Bill Wallace and Mike Sanders are giving a historical presentation this week for the North Pinellas County Retired Educators Association. Mike Sanders is working on the next newsletter to be sent out in April.
D. Museum Committee - Jim Coachman -There has been an increase in The Plumb House visitations. A small crew has been working on the repairs at the Plumb House, however, they would appreciate any help possible on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month.
E. Artifacts and Documents Committee - Joan Turner -No report.
F. Historical Research - Pat Moore -No report.
G. Fund Raising Committee - Laddie Irion/Helen Wilcox -Laddie has requested a meeting of The Ad Hoc Committee and interested advisory board members to determine the next course of action for the suggestions created by the committee.
H. Homestead Committee -Lorelei Keif/Anne Epling - We still need volunteers for the Plumb House Sat. open house hours for April. Please contact Anne with your availability.
OTHER: John Tsacrios stated that there is a book at Clearwater High School that any class can enter their reunion and contact information to be given out if anyone calls there. Clearwater Historical Society will be sponsoring an all day history event at the Clearwater Public Library on April 9, 9-4. Volunteers will be needed to man our displays and answer questions on that day. Bill Wallace will gather items from the Plumb House for our displays. Bill will speak with the library about the details of our setup and breakdown. We want an organized, professional display in hopes of attracting attention to the Historical Society. Joan will make name tags for our staff that will be there. Art Kader, with the City of Clearwater, will create a draft of The Plumb House sign for our approval before it is made.
Mike Sanders reported that Progress Energy has negotiated their price of moving the Ducros House to a much lower price of $14,000. There are still issues with other expenses, but it is still being worked out.
Motion to adjourn meeting made by Mike Sanders and second by Chuck McPherson. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
