Family History and Pioneers

For the purpose of this website, a pioneer is any person or family residing in the area of New River County that became Baker County before or at the time of Baker County's creation in 1861 or moved into the area between 1861 and 1870 and remained in Baker County.

A list of those persons is being compiled from the 1860 and 1870 Federal census and the federal and state Bureau of Land Management records. We encourage you to submit your Baker County Pioneers, their stories, photographs, documents and records for placement on this website.

Baker County Pioneer Narratives will be linked to the Pioneer's name. The policy for including Pioneer Narratives are that the content be original and contain no copyrighted material, include valid contact information for the author and include no living persons. Any material under current copyright must include permission for its inclusion on this website. I will include all Pioneer Narratives as long as they comply with the above stated policy. All Narratives subject to changes in appearance for website formatting purposes, but no changes in the content or context will be made.

All Pioneer Narratives are the copyrighted material of the author and as such no corrections, additions or changes to them may be made, except by the copyright holder; so please do not ask. Comments or additional information may be placed on a separate page and labeled ANNOTATIONS and are subject to the same rules as those for Narratives.

To submit a Pioneer Narrative for inclusion on this website please contact the County Coordinator PRIOR TO SENDING for instructions. All Pioneer Narratives must be in a text format (*.doc, *.rtf, *txt) any illustrations, photographs, images or other media must be in .jpg, .gif or .png format and the text and images transmitted together. Special arrangements will be made regarding files exceeding 3MB.
