Farley Burnsed

We are attempting to do a bit of research on the old "Farley Burnsed House" in the Georgia Bend area and are wondering if you might know anything about this house. Would like to know when it was built and by whom.
I am thinking Edmund Burnside/Burnsed b. 1827 might have built it but not sure.
Edmund, according to census records located in what is now Charlton Co about 1840 with his father. 1851 to 1858/9 it appears he was in Baker Co., FL.
1860 in Traders Hill, Charlton, GA
1870 Baker Co., FL
1874 He is back in Charlton Co,. GA age 47 and stays there until just after 1900 when he moves again into Baker County and dies here in Baker in 1907.
The house has two rows of what appear to be gun ports on all four sides. One row located just above the doors and windows and another row located a few feet above the first.
I wonder if these are gun ports or notches cut into the logs in order to support "ramps" for the purpose of moving more logs higher and higher.
Do you know anything about this dove-tailed square log house built in the Georgia Bend area?
Thank you for your time,
Johnny and Katey Ferrer in Macclenny

THOMPSON

Looking for information on Richard Thompson (b. GA abt. 1800) and his wife Mary A. (b. Ireland abt. 1815). They are found in the 1860 Charlton Co. GA census and in the 1880 Baker Co. Fl. census. I am interested in a daughter Johanna, or Joanna, who married Lewis A. Stokes in Camden or Charlton Co. Ga. in the 1850's. JOHNSON RHODEN

I am trying to find information on three ladies, born in Waldo, FL, around the 1900 era. Their names were Ora Viola, Effie, and Mabel Johnson. The Mother had died giving birth to Mabel. It is my understanding that the step mother and natural Father sent the girls to an orphanage in Jacksonville, FL. This orphanage is where a person known as Mama Lucy Rhoden adopted (I believe) the girls and took them back to Mcclenny, FL. Ora Viola was my paternal Grandmother. I am not sure where or when Ora married Lee Riddick. Both my Grandparents are buried in Tampa, FL. Aunt Effie Johnson Rhoden married Claude Hearst Wolfe there in Baker County, and Aunt Mabel Johnson Rhoden married A. B. (Alfred Blake) Johnson also in Baker County. These relatives are all buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Macclenny. I would like to find out the names of the natural birth parents, birth dates, etc. for these sisters as well as additional information on Mama Lucy Rhoden. Since the birth mother died in Waldo giving birth to Mabel, Mabel's date of birth might help in tracking her burial there in the Waldo area. Anyone having any clues to this query can contact me directly at [email protected]. Thanks, James Lee Riddick

THOMPSON

The Rev. William Acey Thompson, a Congregational Methodist minister, is my great-grandfather. He is said to have been born in Clinch County, Georgia about 1850 and died in Sanderson, Baker County on 29 December 1927. His father is known only to me as J.S. Thompson. He and his family are listed as residents of Waresboro, Ware County, Georgia in the 1880 census. A Methodist tabernacle, built for him in the 1920's is said to be the last church he pastored. It was on U.S. Route 41 South, near Lake City, Columbia County. It was abandoned but still standing in disrepair when photographed in 1960-61. By his second wife Lizzie, whom he married some time after 1913, he had two known children, Henry (who lived in a home for retarded people in southern Florida), and Bessie. I am decended by his first marriage to Phoebe through Berry Jackson Thompson, born on 12 October 1869 in Georgia (married Mary Elizabeth Walker of Nassau County, Florida), and my father, Broward Jackson Thompson , born on 23 October 1913 in Allenhurst, Liberty County, Georgia (married Beatrice Lee Ackerman of New York). I was born in New Smyrna, Volusia County on 20 September 1936. Phoebe is said to have died on 2 January 1913 and be buried at Live Oak Church in Suwannee County. Can anyone help with information about William Acey Thompson, his parents, wives or children? I note that there is a William A. Thompson listed as buried in the Taylor Cemetery. Is there any further information about this burial. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Aloha.

STARLING - GRIFFIS - CREWS - STOKES - CRAWFORD - DOWLING - HICKOX

I'm looking for information on the Starling - Griffis families.
Joe Starling married Lucille Griffis. All their children used the Griffis name. Joseph Griffis married Sarah Jane. Their children were Willis Barkley Griffis- b.1910 d.11/11/1952 (my grandfather), Lacy Griffis, Ernie Griffis, Dexter Griffis, Penelope Griffis and Myrt Griffis. Lucille Griffis appears on the 1870 Baker Co. Census with four children: Joseph, James, Rebecca and John W. Joe Starling does not appear-- so it would appear he was dead, as Lucille is shown as head of household. She does not appear on the 1880 Baker Co. Census.

I am also looking for information of the Crews-Stokes-Crawford-Dowling-Hickox families.
I've traced my Crews side from Nancy Crews m. Woodrow Sapp to Berry Crews m. Sarah Crawford to Calvin McDonald "Mac" Crews m. Sarah Jane Stokes.
The Crawford side from Sarah Crawford m. Berry Crews to Bartley Crawford m. Emantherly Dowling to John (Jack) Dowling m. Sarah Hickox.
My parents are Talmadge Sapp and Sara Mae Griffis. We moved from Baker County in 1979. Any information I could receive would be greatly appreciated.

HOWELL

I would like to communicate with the descendants or anyone that knew Charles Howell. Charles was born around 1880 in Lexington Co., SC. He moved to Baker Co., Fl. and was living there as late as 1940. I know this because I have a picture of him that he sent to my father in 1940. Charles Howell's father and mother were James Carson Howell (1841-1906) and Ellen Smiley. I have lots of information on the SC Howells. He may have lived shortly in Laurens County, Ga.

LAWHERN

I recently took a tour of Baker County GENWEB pages & really enjoyed every minute of it. While reading the History of the Mcclenny United Methodist Church I noticed a listing for a B.T. Lawhern as a minister of the church 1924-1925. I am interested in finding more details about this person. This could be a missing link in my family tree.
If you could put me in touch with someone from the church or forward this message It would be greatly appreciated.
