Barber House
Built in 1881, this is the oldest existing house in Macclenny. The builder and first owner
was Sen. C.F. Barber and his father-in-law, Edward R. Rowe. Sucessive tenants have been
Frank Rowe, and J.W. Barber, Sr. Now owned by J.W. Barber, Jr. (1983)
Sad note: went up in smoke this morning (Apr 14, 2007), a controlled burn.
Branch & Ruth Cone House 1983
Built by Mr. Dan Howell about 1915, bought in 1916 by the Cones who were distinguished
contributors to the civic and cultural growth of Macclenny. Mr. Cone was an attorney and Lt. Governor
of Florida during his brother's term of office. This is now the home of their grandson,
Kenneth Kirkland and his family. (1983)
Carroll - Geiger House 1983
Built by an attorney named Shuey, one of the chief office holders of the land company
that developed the city, prior to 1888. Owners have been Thomas W. Williams
(one of the rebuilders of Jacksonville after the great fire), Tom Carroll and
Cecil Geiger. Present owner is Mrs. Alma Geiger. (1983)

Georgia Wolfe Home 1983
Built in 1923 for Mrs. Georgia Williams Wolfe. Excellent example of architecture of that
period. Was also the home of beloved sisters, Miss Mae and Miss Rosa Wolfe and family.
Herndon - Thompson House 1983
Building date unknown. Brought by Judge Herndon when the County seat was moved in 1886.
His widow operated a boarding house there for many years. Rememberd as the house of Jim
Thompson and family. Now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Mears, who have renovated it to approach
original architecture.

Jim Rowe - Porterfield House 1983
Built in early 1900s by Mr. Rowe and his cousins, Jesse and Arthur, who built most of the
homes in McClenny of that era. Now the home of Mrs. Russell Porterfield.
J.O. Thompson - Reynolds House 1983
Built about 1883 by a Mr. Merritt from "up north." Owned by John and Frances
Thompson during early part of the century, this house was considered the showplace
of the city with its wrap around porches festooned with victorian gingerbread trim.
Now owned by Bill and Susan Krall. (1983)

Padgett House 1983
The property was originally owned by C. B. McClenny, then by George Garrett who sold it
to Ida Mae Matthews, who later married B. J. Padgett in 1902. This home was occupied
by the Padgett family for over 50 years. Mr. Padgett, was an early educator in
the County, and the first principal of McClenny High School (1916).
He also was surveyor for much of the property here. It is now owned by George W. and
Claudette Rhoden. (1983)
Rhoden - Blair House 1983
Built about 1903 by Edgar Turner, but known as the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Rhoden
and their children, especially the Richard Blair family, Mr. Rhoden was a longtime
grocer. Bought by Carol Howard in 1975, who has painstakingly restored it to its present
beauty.
Rogers - Rhoden House 1983
Built before the yellow fever epidemic, this home was owned by Bob Rogers, operator
of a buggy taxi service for the county. Also was the home of the Frank Jones' family and of Mrs.
Carrie Rhoden. Now owned by Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Brazil (1983), who have carefully preserved it.

T.M. Dorman House 1983
Mr. Dorman had this rambling Queen Anne house bult for his wife according to her plans
in 1910. Her satisfaction was expressed above the door with the nameplate: "Suits Us."
The beauty of this home today is the result of meticulous maintenance over 73 years.
