Daguerreotype (glass plate) photo (prior to Tintype)
1864 the death date is according to his unit mates who said they last saw him leaning against a tree in SC as they beat
a fast retreat. don't know if he was sick or wounded. They couldn't take him with them. His wife Lizze had info that he might be
among the CSA troops at Olustee and went and searched among the dead for him. Her grandchildren couldn't remember whether it
was from the soldiers at Ocean Pond or from returning soldiers after the war that she heard he was left to die in SC. Seems like it
was Mr. McClenny and Uncle Rance Williams who broke the news to her when they returned from Union prison after the war.
