Organized at Gainesville (Florida) on April 26, 1862. 
Mustered into Confederate service in April 1862. 
Consolidated with 1st Cavalry Regiment, on April 9, 1865, at Smithfield, NC, and designated as the 1st Infantry Regiment Consolidated.
